Hi All.  Just a quick update.  We are 60 hours now without power or internet.  Tree damage is extensive.  What a storm!

I’m amazed at how little wind we’ve had here for this storm. Virtually no wind yesterday or today. I can’t remember ever having a big snow like this and not having a lot of wind in the mountains. This will make for some great drone shots when the snow quits.

After a raging virga storm for several hours we now have very light snow in Boone

Very light snow has finally begun in Boone!

Still a raging virga storm here in Boone. Saw a friend doing a live feed on Facebook in Vilas, few miles west of Boone and it’s snowing there.

Rays final call is 15-20+ for NW mtns especially along escarpment.

Brad P has dropped his totals for NC mtns in his final call map. Was 14-20 now down to 12-18

Still no flakes here in Boone, looks like we’ve had some virga for a good while based on radar.

What are they looking at? Euro, UK, FV3, CMC all show a foot and a half here. 

Let’s hope this is just the NAM being the NAM. We really haven’t had any of the models “lose” the storm yet and we are around that 3 day window where we typically get some funky runs. Might as well be the NAM that does it.

Warm nose, soil temps, lack of qpf due to convection along the coast...which one will ruin my weekend?  

Agreed...it's been super juicy...but all things considered...it's gonna be some great totals up here and we had about 4 with today's thump of snow

I've got the Escape filled w/ Water/blankets/flashlight/snow chains/etc... Ready to hunker down in Banner Elk starting Friday night. I haven't been this stoked about a storm in a long time.

GSP wouldn’t put that map out until at least 6-8 was on the ground already. 

App just cancelled afternoon classes..As the weather is clearing. They're going to catch a lot of flak from this I bet.

Barely able to see a hundred if that here during this last batch. Piling up fast too.

This current snow is another over performer for us in the mtns. Ray was calling for dusting to maybe an inch. We’ve had several very heavy squalls and I’d say solid 2”

Technically the address is Banner Elk. My wife and I scheduled an AirBNB for the holidays this weekend. It was done back in October, as I thought we could get away with it since it's early Dec. If we don't go we lose the reservation. Being a weather weenie, I am pretty deadest on going and just preparing to get stuck for a couple days.
