  1. https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2022/01/04/corporate-landlords-silicon-valley/ The millions of foreclosures in the housing collapse created new opportunities for global investment firms to buy homes at scale, becoming corporate landlords controlling tens of thousands of homes. And a wave of digital advances sped up and reduced friction in home-trading operations and property management. The biggest beneficiaries of Silicon Valley innovations have been Wall Street interests, not individual homeowners — and certainly not renters. Corporate landlords, focused on easy yields from rental homes, have emerged as an increasingly important and unique actor in housing markets around the country, especially in the Sun Belt. Today, corporate landlords are riding a wave of growth fueled by market conditions emerging during the pandemic. Their growth, though, comes at a cost for the rest of us. Corporate landlords are outcompeting would-be owner occupiers with all-cash, no-contingency offers; they’re charging rent increases averaging 20 percent for new move-ins; and they’re more likely to pursue eviction than mom-and-pop landlords, even during the pandemic.
  2. The real problem with the housing market are these large real estate companies buying up hundreds and thousands of homes and renting them out. With interest rates so low these huge companies took advantage to make billions on the backs of the everyday American citizen. The lack of supply and increasing rental rates due to these massive corporations caused the dramatic rise in price of homes. The very low interest rates didn't help.
  3. Looking to book a trip for next month. Debating between England/Scotland (worried about their covid outbreak), Aruba/Puerto Rico, or California hiking and all the national parks over there. Any suggestions?
  4. As someone that works in this field, a great article. It's not going to be pretty, but I think what happened in 2008 will not happen this time around.
  5. Next year gonna be lit. Never has Syracuse gone 4 years below normal in a row.
  6. 3 straight days of enhanced coming up https://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/
  7. Most likely a little bit of both. Some urban heating as well.
  8. Don't think I posted the March temps BUF: +4.2 ROC: +2.2 WAT: +2.8 SYR: +3.2 BING: +2.6
  9. I really do fear for the west coast the next few decades. This summer is not going to be pretty as they are already in a drought after their "rainy" season. I was out west quite a bit last summer and saw fires nearly everywhere I went. When we were out to eat all the locals were talking about the lakes drying up so quick. https://droughtmonitor.unl.edu/CurrentMap/StateDroughtMonitor.aspx?West
  10. Watched the 2nd half after my hockey game and it was back and forth the entire half. One of the games of the tourney
  11. After next weekend the EPS/GEFS say we go quite warm, lets hope its happens. This would yield temps in the 60s/70s
  12. If you move to Florida and post pictures by the pool everyday I'm going to have to move too. For instance today I went to the gym, cleaned the house, and watched netflix. If I was in a warm climate I could be doing a million other things. Beach, pool, hiking, sports, etc....We lose so much time here. Jeb walks in heavy snow and jeb walks in high heat/humidity are very close for me in terms of likeability, especially the ones at night in summer.
  13. This Sabres team is different. We just had the best March record in a decade. We are meshing well, cannot wait for next year.
  14. Went to the game tonight, had tears in my eyes. RJ is a legend around here, 51 years broadcasting.
  15. I'll most likely be keeping my season tickets for 4 years until the new stadium. The new tickets will likely be too much. I'll probably go to 2-3 games a year.
  16. For both or one seat? Mine are $875 for 100 level 24th row.
