Glad April is done. Lots of backdoors, wedges, rain, mist, cool days, etc. Also the heavy wet snowstorm early in the month that snapped a bunch of trees. Still looking for the first 70° as well. Maybe someday Greta will end these nasty, raw springs.

May hasn't been much better in recent years

Beat MOS by 3 and 5 deg respectively with our 73 here today.

Yet watching the sun set on this splendor tomorrow evening will be like farewell to a fondest love.

But the party is back in time for the weekend at least

When I was in the pool in Sarasota, I met a guy from Ohio who lives in the path of totality, he said he wanted to get out of there before all the people came and took over his town with a traffic jams. I asked if he ever witnessed one, he said no. I said I hear it's a pretty spectacular event and you could watch it from your own yard, he said his give a shit meter didn't register. I was a bit dumbfounded; I would have at least stayed home to see it at least once to see what the excitement was all about.

It's a certain type of person that appreciates an eclipse. There's a reason it seemed like a lot of high-end cars and electric cars, at least what I saw in the traffic and not so many GMC 2500 HDs.

I was one of the few pick ups trucks I saw walking around Island Pond, versus at NASCAR I'm just one in a sea of pick ups.

@HIPPYVALLEYre: Iceland. I looked at the map of totality - the pictures below are from the area (westfjords) in northwestern corner of iceland in July 2017. Barren and beautiful. We took a ferry from Stykkishólmur, arrived in Brjánslækur and drove a big clockwise loop back to Stykkishólmur - literally 20 hour day if I recall. Most of the roads (or all) were gravel/dirt. I remember us laughing that the scenery was so beautiful that it got to be ho-hum. This was the most spectacular area we visited IMO.

Agree. I went to Westfjords in 2016, most beautiful part of Iceland I thought. Lots of nice hot springs as well. We stayed over in a couple different places though. Lots of 1 lane tunnels and bridges lol.

  5. NH DOT/State Police could have done better. VT never does anything for traffic so I'm not surprised there, honestly... l'd write into the contract that they need a temp bridge or something to keep 91 (2) lanes instead of dropping to 1. It's kind of a safety issue.

NH gets all costs reimbursed by NASCAR for turning parts of 93 N into South. No one to charge here really.

I will say that VT had a lot of troopers stationed on 91 around St. Johnsbury.

Ditto... was in that same exact traffic jam as you and Weathafella on 112 "Lost River Road" to get onto 93

North Woodstock NH 10:30pm... you Jerry and I'm sure others were in this:

Backed out of our parking spot in Newport 4pm

    Finally exited Newport 5:30pm

Arrived in Boston 2am, (non-stop... empty bottles in car)

I don't remember hearing a single honk the entire drive.

As Powderfreak and others said, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat.

I think compounding things was that Google / Apple Maps really struggled to update anything and gave some ridiculous suggestions even with cell phone service (I had downloaded offline maps before trip).

    Some media attention to this:

This. My trip back to camp would have been 3 hours instead of 4, but I took some stupid detours instead of just staying on the main route.

  7. We were in Island Pond, VT. We were staying near Plymouth, NH. Took RT 25 west then up 91. Busy getting there, but it was moving.

Stayed right on the waterfront on the lake, probably a thousand other people there in our area. Was awesome. Kind of made me feel that all the stress and day to day things in life really are inconsequential in the big picture. Sad in a way now that it's over, considering the build up.

Traffic bad on the way back, took 3.5 hours for something that is 2. Still totally worth it!
