  1. I think more banter and good-natured ribbing is kinda fun. I get a little jelly when I read the bants in the central PA threads.
  2. Ha! I'm starting to think there's a lot of people that can't use a ruler or like to measure to report the deepest yard drifts. NWS office was the highest pinpoint total on the map for the 3/11-12 event, contour smoothing be darned. But, it got the official Pitt season to the average, I guess...it all came out in the wash (The accumulation map for 3/11-12 isn't great for up here in Butler either, no way we got 6-7".) I am sorta glad though as I missed planting grass seed at the right time last year because I waited for mild spring temps but then it didn't rain when we got them. I didn't even wait for the snow to melt completely this time around. Time to put away the winter gear, happy we got decent January totals and some deep cold through February; almost makes up for the absurdly warm December and our (currently) overshot March temps.
  3. Robins have already come out to play. So have the dang chipmunks. Grass seed is on order, figure it'll be an early planting season since most models are easing up on cold over the next week.
  4. Friggin' flood warning. Had to dig a trench in the ice to let the back patio flow.
  5. As much as I love cold weather and snow, I'm pretty ok with this warmup...not all the potential rain though. The ice storm 2 weeks ago put a layer of ice then all that sleet on top of the existing snowpack. The little snow that fell afterward has melted away leaving an impressive crust of ice over everything, every hill has been a luge track for about a week now. At least the dog finally learned to slow down after making a short stack of pancakes.
  6. Still sleeting north of Butler. Kept hitting my head on iced branches hanging low over the driveway.
  7. This sleet is heavy, woulda been great snow. Pet friendly salt works on the ice layer after shoveling the sleet though, so that'll be what I do before going to bed.
  8. Washington County is getting lit up, er, well, the opposite: https://poweroutage.us/area/county/765. The line of freezing rain causing power outages across multiple states. Check out Ohio: https://poweroutage.us/area/state/ohio
  9. Def not busting on ice up here in Butler. Branches, powerlines, everything.
  10. My buddy up near Volant said it's been heavy sleet for a minute up there. He's hating this lol
  11. Main power lines across the street are encased in ice, can see it from the front window. ...don't like that much, no sir.
  12. Just threw the frisbee with the dog out front and no ice yet. (North of 422 Butler)
  13. When we first moved to PA in Nov 2018, just started to unpack and lost power because of the ice storm for 12 hours. I thought the power infra would be more resistant to winter weather because the area deals with it all the time, haha, I was wrong.
  14. I'll be upset if tree limbs come down and "bust" up the power lines because it would really suck to have no power once temps start dipping. I've got the generator ready, hope I won't need it.
  15. Yuck. The text of the WSW means it isn't really being issued because of snow (no >6" in 12hr)... >0.25" of freezing rain then?
  16. Correct, "Snow accumulations of 3 inches over 12 hours, any freezing rain accumulations less than ¼ inch, or a high impact snow/ice event." https://www.weather.gov/pbz/wwacriteria
  17. I'd bet they are following the WPC: https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/wwd/wso/
  18. Whew, thank goodness. The half-day hangup line had been right over me in Butler on models for the past 1.5 days, I was growing concerned. Realistically though, the models are all gridded, so we won't have 1km-by-1km outputs until we get closer to the event. 3km, 12km, 30km are all large grids that leave out a lot of details so that line definitely has some wavering that can't be displayed on the NAM or GFS. Edit: "Wavering" = Uncertainty
  19. Eh, I'd rather dry slot than have freezing rain for hours.
  20. Ground is still frozen under all this snow up in Butler. Whatever melts between now, during the rain, likely won't be enough to warm up a lot of the surfaces. WAA means clouds so the sun won't be out to really warm up manmade surfaces either. Wonder if the freezing rain is going to readily accumulate everywhere.
  21. Looks like it'll be a good rain event regardless. I hope we get some good melting the next few days, still have like >7" everywhere, a lot of rain on top of snow and frozen ground is a bit concerning.
  22. I use this, it's not quite as featured as Radar Scope but it's still pretty good, helluva lot faster than the new radar: https://weather.cod.edu/satrad/nexrad/index.php?parms=PBZ-N0Q-1-6-100-usa-rad
  23. Never got above freezing up here just north of Butler. Snow started 15-20 mins ago, accumulating on roofs already because the ground is frozen. Buddy in Volant texted me and told me snow started about 10 mins ago there. He doubts the high totals but I see it still being pretty high, at least up here. I think the deformation band will still get all of us a good amount and it's not due until the middle of the night.
