If it's going to be a torch winter give me '11-'12

Definitely.  I love torch winters.  Hate being stuck in the house, with minimum daylight to go along with it.  So depressing

Are you an 80 year old woman?

Have my 93 year old grandfather up from Florida.   Had to turn heat on a few nights ago.  I think I sweat out everything in middle of night.   Now he's down in AC for a few days with my dad and aunt gambling away.

My sister and brother in law are there today.  The videos they have been sending are epic.  The crowd is bonkers.

2024 at Bethpage Black.   Wouldn't mind having a few drinks there lol

  4. Shot my personal best yesterday, 80 on par 72.   Six strokes better than previous best.   Double bogeyed 17 after tee shot found a mulch bed with little trees and bushes, giving me no shot to advance the ball except sideways back into the fairway.   Missed green to the right from 140 yards.  Ended in thick rough and a low spot in ground.   Bad chip and two putted.   Missed a 15 foot birdie putt on par 5 18 and got the par.   Not disappointed that I missed breaking 80, that's being greedy being I never broke 85 before

Yeah triple putting is right up my ally.  The putts are my biggest problem.  I feel like playing occasionally I can keep the driving and ball striking from irons ok, but short game “feel” just isn’t there.

My worst shots are pretty much anything like 30-125 yards.  Basically I’m good with full swing pitching wedges and irons… but as soon as the distance gets under a full pitching wedge I’m very prone to chunking it or skulling it.  That half swing like 70 yard shot is my demon.  Sometimes I’ll feel brave and try a full 60 degree wedge but that’s even lower probability of hitting cleanly… that’s almost a certain rocket skull 40 yards over the green .

But those feel shots under like 120 yards, and especially like 40-80 yards, is a problem.  Divots the size of beaver pelts from those while the ball goes 20 yards.

my range of death was 40-90 yards.   I use Cobra one lengths, so my gap wedge is 49 degrees at 37.5 inches long.   A full swing sends it to the moon and straight down for about 100 yards

I carry a 52* and 56* in standard lengths, but do not do full back swings because those skull into the back trees too lmao.  I been doing 3/4 back swings or less and accelerating fast through the ball, which have been covering those shots under 100 yards.    Not saying I'm pin hunting with these.  But gets on the green more often than not.

Yeah that sounds about how I would get one, ha.  This was the rare great ball strike that felt so good.  Maybe next time, ha.  Played even par through 7 holes (2 birdies, 2 bogeys) but ended up finishing the 9 holes at +3 due to finishing double bogey then bogey.

Those rare solid ball strikes feel amazing, you know its a great shot just by the feel.  But breaking 40 is a great feeling in a 9.   Finished a back 9 with a 39 for my best ever 86 this summer

Approach shots for me are hit or miss.  Ill probably fat, thin, or shank maybe 2-3 a round that completely screws up a chance of par.   I usually give myself a chance to scramble for par, but realistically one putts are a rarity, unless I can chip it real close.

Those stupid triple putts usually only get me after a GIR:fulltilt:.  But got absolutely no problem draining a 30footer for triple bogey:D

  7. How long has everyone been playing?  This is my 3rd full season.  I do not have a handicap.  But am averaging scores between 90-95.  With occasional high 80s and lowest 86 a few times.  Of course there are crap days where I'm in the 100s.   To me I dont think its bad at all, using off the rack irons, not fitted, and no lessons.  And my natural drive off the tee is a draw that's around 240-275 yards

  8. Someone's fired.   An 8 iron set was listed for $149.   For the hell of it I ordered them for that price.  I got emailed a confirmation and receipt. But highly doubt they will ship it.  I'm sure they will offer a refund instead lmao

One question: Why does August and September of 2011 (?) get lost in the shuffle? I spent a ton of time driving all across orange, putnam, and westchester counties that late summer. There was another clear 5"+ rainfall over the entire northeast. Anyone remember this?

edit: There was actually a huge rainstorm in October followed by "Snowtober" a week later (2011). I can't remember weather this wild since then but I definitely know that the entirely of that period I'm talking about didn't cause the level of devastation that this event just did.

2011 we had Irene, and Lee flood us out.  Lost power for like 3 hours.  That October snowstorm really shook us up.  Can't remember how much snow, probably around 8-12 inches of solid paste, wiped out the power grid here for days up to a couple weeks.  After that, power companies have had contractors cut back trees over power lines.  Some people get so mad about this tree cutting, yet are the first to complain about Facebook on their power being out.    Luckily Ida had minimum winds here, power loss would have been more widespread

Interesting, West Point had 2.40” and one of our regular posters from New Windsor had just over 2”, 2.92” here in Campbell Hall.

I don't have a gauge, but it was drizzle most of the day, and dry for s couple hours too here.  Couple heavy showers that lasted 5-10 minutes.    No idea what it did overnight tho. Although in a moderate shower now

  12. I'll take this moment to apologize.   I fell right into the trap of online arguments that make no one change their minds.  Other then that, seeing all this beer talk has me decided already what I'm doing when I get off from work, especially being soaked through my underwear from the humidity by 830 this morning cleaning up down branches from last night's pop-up storm

  13. Buying a new car is a pain in today's times.  Looking for a 4cyl AWD small suv or sedan.   Something that's good on gas.  I have a 2014 explorer with 66k miles that I will probably give my wife.  I test drove a Kia Seltos, but they are in such high demand people buy them online while they are in transit to the dealership.   These people are paying a few grand over MSRP.  I refuse to.   Also looking at the 2022 Subaru Legacy.    Going to test drive one Saturday.   Looks like my only option is to test drive,  then look online and get lucky to be the first to click to buy on a model and options I want
