Anyone know what bird makes this call? All sounds are from the same one (I presume). It sounds a little like a crow “glocking”, but then there’s a loud human-like scream. It happened around 6-7am.
Ah yes, the call of the raven. Had one hang around a lot last summer... I burst into laughter with every scream.

Quite the light show on the cell by Berlin. It's continuous.

Deer flies are out now. There was virtually no break between the end of the black flies and the start of the deer flies. The latter seems to be much more aggressive on warm humid days with ample sunshine than on the cooler days. They were awful on Sunday and Monday but have been much less of a pest the past couple of days. I only had one come at me while working outdoors today. They are nasty, totally ignorant of deet and they'll bite right through your shirt.
Can anyone ID this tree? I thought it was a yellow birch at first since the bark isn't that much different from it, but it's clearly not with the pinnate leaves and sawtoothed leaflets. I know it's a little hard to see in the 2nd photo, but it has white flowers higher up. There are several of them on the property and on the roadside. I've only seen them above about 2K elevation.
I believe that is a mountain ash.

72/51F A "10" day! Dark blue skies and just about the highest sun angle of the year.
Where is eek? I miss him keeping me on the straight and narrow with my obs.
Powderfreak was posting pictures of snow so I had to stay away from this thread.
Don't worry, I'm keeping a close eye on your obs and pond depth reports.

What would you guys do for these small branches on my cherry tree? I have poultry fencing around it so I don’t know what got to it last night to scrape/chew the bark off. Let it go for the season? Prune in March? Prune now? Try to repair it in some way?
Sorry for the blurry pic. It’s difficult to get a focused upclose pic with the ipad.
You don't need to do anything at all. It'll heal those little scrapes just fine.

Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a slight chance of showers. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and gusty winds. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 31. Very windy, with a west wind 70 to 80 mph increasing to 100 to 110 mph. Winds could gust as high as 140 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Sad we don't live there.

A little surprised 17/-16 was enough to reach G4 again.

Running out of juice... Bt has dropped all the way down to 7.
Shortest event ever? Even the ultra-high speed CME's from 2003 lasted way longer.
This was like a solar derecho.

Nice uptick in activity on the Sebec cam, there were some faint pink rays becoming visible before the clouds arrived up there.

I'm up on a Hilltop right now looking North in the sky looks extremely bright. About 75% covered by clouds but in between the clouds its very bright
Indeed, nice backlit clouds.
Based upon radar/satellite/moon, it seems that might be all we get to see. Pretty frustrating, we finally get the arrival timing and solar wind perfect, and then everything else works against us.
