I use to love snow as a kid. Would watch Mr Bill early mornings to see if school was closed. Riding home from school hearing on the radio Winter Storm warning now in effect. Times have changed. I'm now a carer for my mother. We don't have a heat backup nor a way to charge her ventilator battery. Wishing for powder and power.
-
I wasn't concerned with power outages because of the powder but the winds are concerning. I get insane sw winds but not so much northern winds. Still a little nervous with the coldest temps in a good while.
-
Jealous. I know that wind sound and direction. That's what I always get here. Just not yet.
-
Well, I was wrong. Thought we would get the warm nose before now. Forecast has warming a couple of degrees in a few hrs. Webcam half a mile away thanks to @Hvward lets me view power lines as ice accrues.
-
I think Canton, Clyde, Bethel will have ice issues. Same areas that have tropical flooding issues.
-
How good is the the HRRR model? Pretty much shows mostly rain thru the central &.sw mountains counties.
-
Ice chances in parts of Haywood (as usual) are decreasing. Wishing no lights out for anyone. Gotta keep my Mom on her bipap ventilator.

The infamous warm nose. An adage as old as time here in Maggie Valley.

Can't recall an afternoon temp below 10. Early 2000s remember it only got to 12 with a few inches snow on the ground. -

Not a fan of heavy wet snow. Cost me $4k 2018 for tree removal. It was fun as a kid. Not so much these days. -

Jason is awesome but he takes a missed snow forecast way too personally! Check his fb. Southern mtn weather is unpredictable. -

Where I'm at we hardly ever gets ice. Even when it's forecasted the south winds will wake me up middle of the night and I know then inversion is happening. -

Any idea on temps? Hopefully more pow than cement. -
Usually in CAD situations Maggie warms up over night with moderate sw winds. This could be a different sit than usual. Wait and see. Cheers

It can happen. I remember mid 80s walking on rafters trying to get a house dried in. Freezing rain for few hrs then the trees started falling. It was like incoming fire. We were like 4.5k ft so probably weakened trees from acid rain. There was no wind just frozen precip.

Haven't paid much attention past few days since i realized the cold wasn't getting over the mountains. I'm in Maggie and don't recall any major ice events in 30yrs it's rain or snow here with sleet at times. Haven't measured but probably 12+ so far this winter and still 2+ months left for possible winter wx.
