Yea we in Florida always want that close by pass of the biggest storm. We live for that sometimes!

When we posted our predictions I think I said Ida would "the" historic one for this season. But it is earlier than I expected and just don't feel it much. Too fast, still not much to look at, etc. The models show a storm with potential, I see that. Maybe it will ease east and north, or not. I enjoy the anticipation, but not holding my breath for a wild storm-chasing live event.

I do suspect I was wrong about Ida being the historic storm of the season though. (But being wrong is something I am used to!)

The New Orleans "Night Tripper" died on Day 157 in 2019 the same day as a good friend of mine who got lung cancer from asbestos on ground zero in NYC helping his city he loved so much after 9/11/01. Maybe he was in “Right Place Wrong Time”. Dr. John is known for loving his city as well.

    RIP to both.

  3. Ida to hit New Orleans.

Watching "Live and Let Die" when I was 13 was memorable for me and my first taste of Tarot. New Orleans was also memorable to me. The three forever intertwined in my mind. Even when Katrina was approaching and pounding NO the concept of 007 and Tarot were in my mind.

Curious that my fate so many years later has taken me to learn about Dr John Dee, who Prospero is based on, the "Original OO7".

We have a potential intense TC brewing that is locked into a US coastal landfall and is about to get a lot of attention, media or otherwise. The main meteorological thread is going to get busy, so as to better assist the mods, we'll make a banter thread here. Ramble on about whatever local concerns, travel, direct, indirect, semi- or even non-related discussion while this event unfolds.

Perfect! I have been holding back a bit. ;)

  5. So I text my brother this morning In Vermont.

    "How is Henri up there?"

He responds, "Henri is a p****!" and sends this selfie video:

Of course he is either on top of Mt Mansfield or the Camel Hump which he climbs almost daily.

    LOL

EDIT: I added asterisks in his term because neither he or I would want to be offensive. The term he used translates to, "very wimpy." But anyone who did not grow up in the 70's might take it in a different meaning today which does not apply to what he said. I get it, thus the edit. We older people need to be aware of what we say in innocence that is not appropriate anymore. I may even remove the only letter left in his term as it might be too much. Let me know.

If we're competing for longest outage I'll put in my entry.  Was out over a month in FL for Charlie.  It absolutely sucked for the couple days we stayed there, so hot and humid and still and ultra buggy and fire ants outside.  We didn't stick around for it though.  Luckily was able to borrow a snowbird's condo on the other side of the state.

Of course loss of life and injury is the worst and destruction of property comes after that but extended outages are definitely not fun.  Also note that it's a freaking mess on the roads when there are no traffic lights.

We were out almost 3 weeks after Irma. Funny, for us down here in Florida it was the not having A/C that was killing us. Our food in the fridge was gone in 2 or 3 days, we had battery fans and lights, and ate canned food or out anywhere that was open (A/C too).

I wonder up north what is the worst issue of no power.

New England regional subforum has the hot thread. Makes sense since that is where it will be making landfall and the forum kind of rose out of the ashes of EasternWx. The tropical subforum threads are hotter when its a purely tropical and subtropical latitude event. This system isn't exactly going to make people "OMG!!" at any point from an intense hurricane aspect, outside of some kind of unforeseen atmospheric phenomenon.

Oh yes, I see it is HOT right now.

I didn't even think about a New England sub-forum during a Tropical Storm. LOL

Look at all those names I've never seen! Might have to jump in just for fun. :)

Or not, I am not seeking for more people to block my posts. ;)

What is going on, why isn’t this thread more popular? Potential US landfall hurricane and it’s crickets? Where is everyone

I'm here. But not a Tampa Bay storm just watching mostly. But yea, where are all the "Sandy" people who we are used to seeing post??

Weather Channel is all over it, so it is in public domain getting attention.

    LOL!

I knew I went low on named storms. A few surprised me; Anna, Bill, Claudette, and Danny. Elsa, Fred, and Grace were maybe in my numbers. Henri is another surprise.

So for me to win, almost every named storm will be hurricane and mostly a major. Figuring late September and October start, I was likely way off. August did fire up a bit. ;)

Good thing I am not a met with people depending on my predictions!

    Briefly yesterday

Best eyes of the year last year were the ones that pounded the Yucatan coast. Couple out in the Atlantic that we watched as well. But the ones that came in late season were very impressive and were devastating to that area.

I'm in an old 1940s or 1950s bungalow and the exterior pane of glass and screen came off my window and landed on the AC unit outside last night. That's the extent of my excitement from Fred.

That's not good. I guess it could have been worse, but still not good.

Honestly considering the direction of the storm I expected much more squally bands with afternoon heating.

But the outer bands have been minimal down the FL peninsula today.

With such deep SW flow, ECSB is not there. Neither has the meso boundaries.

    High clouds have prevailed

We had one band here in Pinellas County come through today after passing by for many hours offshore; maybe 15 or 20 minutes of sideways rain and winds around 20 mph, but nothing big except the visuals that creates like flooded parking lots and swaying palms that seemed to possibly be exaggerating a little..

Our temperatures around here have been less than the ocean the past two days, so it appears the band came over land and lost its fuel and faded out quickly.

Just to jump off topic here, briefly, Josh was never in a reporting capacity for TWC. They reached out to him while he was on his regular chase schedule for several hurricanes. The WN gig was their decision to contract him for work and he took it. Fred was not a normal chase. Additionally, Josh now lives on the Gulf coast during hurricane season for this very reason. He has a particularly great skill set that can be advantageous for any particular network coverage. That being said, if there is an intense hurricane landfall, he's going to be in chase mode, not coverage mode.

At any rate, no need to berate the man for getting paid.

I'd pay to have that job. Who needs food and bills paid anyway. ;)

  14. What a fun day here (reading on my iPhone when I could today). Had to actually do work today. (Hate it when that has to happen, especially during a Gulf storm.)

So exciting! Almost a hurricane! Fred!!? Really??

72 mph gust at St George Island, so far the best I've seen from the "new" Fred.
