The bolded is a huge exaggeration, lol. But Texas summers are like Michigan winters in that a lot of people are staying under the A/C or heat as much as they can.

I'm assuming his aunts sister is older. Obviously some people have lives and leave their houses but you'd be surprised how many people that live in florida, don't leave their houses much, even in the pleasant winter months. Most people (atleast on the gulf side/tampa, fort myers) have pools, nice screened in lanai's and don't have a need to leave the house. Younger people have migrated down there but a lot have left as they realized it's not as desirable as it was during covid. Most older people just stay at home, regardless of weather. I lived in austin for a year. While it's hot, there's still tons to do outside. Definitely beats artic air.

Ditto. I try to explain to people around here what it's like down there, especially inland. They just don't understand that you can actually adapt to it. I had people from here come down to vacation for a week and leave after 3 days lmao. I couldn't figure out why every one moved so slow down there when I first moved there from FL (beach FL mind you with life saving sea breezes). I mean it is very noticeable they move at a different pace in the low country. Then the full force of summer hit, for like 5 months, and I got it lol. I started calling it slow country instead of low country.
Yea its definitly adaptable but like with alot of things, it's all mental. In time, one should be able to learn to adapt, tolerate and even be productive in it.

Actually I disagree if we are talking extreme heat vs extreme cold. I think majority of people would rather have neither but would take extreme cold over extreme heat.
And lol we get way lower than 40s for months. They could never even have a michigan Fall day let alone winter day. But these past few days are right on par with many Florida summer days. Thank goodness it was only 3-4 days.
Funny thing is we can tolerate the heat by going out on the boat or to go the beach. When its cold in the south, they hibernate and don't even leave the house. Although that sounds like thats you in the summer here lol.

Whenever we get weather like this I always think how AWFUL it would be to live in the south. We have to deal for 3 or 4 days. This is their entire summer.
They say the same when they have those rare days in the 40s. Thats us for atleast 5 months. All depends on individuals tolerance. I think most people would take warmth over arctic air.

Prob gonna end up with 7+ inches of rain today. Been awhile I seen flooding like I've seen today around here.

Another cool gray day here. Usually the 2nd half of May is when I start running the AC, at least periodically, but this year its either been the heat running or windows open. Zero complaints from me.
The cloud cover this may has been ridiculous. Looks like it's finally gonna man up temp wise.

Since when does preferred weather make you sick in the head? I think its sick in the head to spend winter in a tropical climate, but I dont take to insults
I think by now you know not to take anything I say to ❤️. I spend winter in a tropical climate when its zzzz. I do travel back for snow which is in its own right may be considered to some as sick in the head.
I dont recall a pattern like this for this long 6+ days in late may. Luckily it looks to dry out for the weekend for movement in hart plaza..

Gray skies, sweater weather and fall feels in late may. No complaints here!
As if this shit doesn't suck enough, you gotta keep reminding us how sick in the head you are. Who enjoys this shit in may.

Oh I agree! I dont like the warmth either. I just meant considering the 90s for days to our west, squeezing into the low 80s was nothing here
8 days in a row of clouds and barely hitting 60, gross. Guess it's time to head to vegas where it looks like they're gonna Crack 100 for the first time this yr.

Meanwhile I wore a sweater and the heat ran all day. Lol spring in the midwest
I have been home from Florida for 65 days and I think we've had maybe 20 decent days. I'd be okay if we deleted march and April from the calendar.

MI summers are awesome. 1988, 1995 and 2012 are the hottest summers I experienced in MI.
I would says there are 5 months of what I call summer weather in MI; mid-May to mid-October. Note: It has been a bit since we had a cold fall. Plus I am well inland for the GLs to impact my temps much in May into June.
Hardcore summer weather, yeah, definitely not 5 months.
Yea my criteria for summer is a little loose. Temps in the 60s atleast is considered summer so may through September.
2.6 inches of rain yesterday. Glad most of rain is gonna stay to the south the next few days. Pretty epic totals for ohio valley incoming. Looks like in about 10 days we may consistently see almost 60 everyday.

Let's just say I'll rather deal with Summers in Texas over the Winters downwind of the Great Lakes.
EDIT: And days like the ones we're expecting through the weekend (temps stuck in the 50s with nothing but stratocumulus and light stratiform rain/drizzle) only reaffirms how much I would hate having to deal with several months of it.
Exactly, give me heat over the crap we gotta sludge through in march/April, cold rain.

Lol theres nowhere near 5 months of summer in MI. Summer weather can span the course of 5 months, just as winter weather can span the course of 7 months...but it isnt constant. Realistically, you can count on a solid 3 months of summer and 4 months winter in southern MI and about 2 months summer and 5 months winter in northern MI. Regardless, it is a fantastic state for 4 seasons.
Been hanging around you too much with the glass half full positive approach. 5 months of summer incoming.

Might end up with over 3 Inches of precip today. Been a minute since I've seen this kind of soaking. What makes it worse is it's a cold ass rain.

Heavy sleet with some thunder and gusty winds on my walk to class this morning. Why the hell did I come here?
Everyone that lives in Michigan says this on days like today but once summer comes, there's not a better place be than in Michigan, particularly up north out on the lake or out on the links. Unfortunately it only lasts 5 months.

Im very curious to see how today plays out. Wonder if it will clear out a bit up my way. Had snow showers and sleet this morning. Some good rumbles of thunder and heavy rain. Let’s see what this evening brings
Most often warm fronts struggle to get as far north as modeled around here in the early spring.

Just had some legitimate thunder/lightning with the ongoing sleet/snow. Prob most exciting thing we'll see around here until hopefully snow on christmas.

It was pretty much a non-event here. Considering it was bowing out, I expected much more. It's like once they make their way over the oakland hills. they peter out.
-
Considering its the first severe event of the season, you'd think the watch would've been issued awhile ago but I understand their hesitancy. People already don't trust/believe meteorologists around here when it comes to severe weather so they don't wanna over hype. Also with the sun going down, perhaps they believe we'll lose some instability.

No one can hype up an event like Roger...
Hope he doesn't have a social media page with followers....
Dreary, drizzle with overcast. Not seeing much this far north but who knows. We seem to get the best storms when we least expect it around here.

I'd rather we have some cold into end of March instead of mid April or something like that.
Nothing grinds my gears more than colder than avg April's. My bad memory is well documented on here but I'd venture to guess April's have been avg to below avg temp wise more than half the time the last 10 years.

Aren't you in Florida? Why are you complaining
I'm only down there until March 1st. Work requires me in person starting in March. I wish I was down there. Its been 80 n sunny everyday since I left.

70 degrees to snow. I wish we could just flip from cold to warm and not have to go through this 2 month period march/April of mediocrity where were most likely not to get a snowstorm or severe weather or warm enough temps that last more than 2 days.

June 2025 General Discussion
in Lakes/Ohio Valley

I think we can both compromise and agree that today is a top shelf summer day with the limited humidity. Although I'd imagine 75 instead of 85 would be your preference.
