  1. Can’t believe how fast it went severe warned. Already seeing a hook trying to form too. .
  2. I sure haven’t in my 9 years living here. And in February?? Wild times… .
  3. I’m in Humboldt Park, about 4 miles from the lake, and we still had about 2 inches of compacted snow before the sun started setting. Been steady rain for hours though, really a bummer after this morning. Front of my house at 9am vs 3:30 pm: Bonus pic of my slushman - he looks worried for the same reason we all have been. .
  4. This feels like a dumb question but can anyone give me odds on a 9:30am flight on Saturday out of Midway happening? I’ve got some nephews in Dallas who are excited to see me, but the thought of trying to dig out that morning and make it from Humboldt Park to Midway just to sit around through delays and possibly cancellation instead of being cozy at home is stressing me out. .
  5. Latest LOT afd hinting at upgrading to a warning this afternoon as long as models don’t shift drastically. .
  6. I’ve seen some mean dry slots in my day but this one would take the cake [emoji3525] .
  7. Love hearing how everyone got into weather. As early as I can remember, every time there was a thunderstorm my dad would grab me and we would sit at the western window together eating sour cream & cheddar ruffles chips watching the lightning. First major event I recall watching was the hurricane Andrew coverage on TWC when I was 7. Got a 13” Sharp TV with my christmas money the next year and had TWC on every single night as I went to sleep til high school. Obviously Twister made a big impact when it came out too, but Warren Faidley’s book Storm Chaser was even more impactful; I must’ve read it 1000 times as a kid. Anyway, sitting in Humboldt Park where the rain/snow line is expected to be tomorrow, keeping my fingers crossed for a colder trend somehow. .
  8. I’m in a similar boat, supposed to drive from Chicago to Dayton, OH on Friday. I’m worried about the conditions through north-central Indiana especially. We’re gonna have a very disappointed niece if we cancel, but I don’t want to end up stuck on the side of the highway either. Really tough call for a lot of us. .
  9. Whew. Last night snuck up on me in Humboldt Park. I had all of my friends/housemates who live upstairs come down to the basement when the sirens started going off, and immediately after that they issued the updated the tor warn with my house in the center of the polygon’s path. I’ve only lived in Chicago for 6 years but seeing that couplet turn right and make a beeline for my neighborhood was the most scared I’ve felt here. Luckily the rotation kept turning right and passed us to the south, and once we were out of danger the storm was extremely enjoyable. We all went out and sat under the sunroom porch to watch the lightning show as the storm passed to the southeast. Had several very close CG’s no more than .2 miles away where the flash and boom were almost simultaneous. Easily the best thunder and lightning I’ve experienced here. Even had a few dime-sized hailstones. No damage to my house or garden, and I’m glad for the .44” of rain we got to help my plants get through the 100 degree heat moving in today. Overall it ended up being a great storm, crazy to consider how easily it could’ve been a tragedy.
  10. Snow finally tapered off here in west Humboldt Park, Chicago. Storm total of 7.75” here near North/Kimball at 3:50pm. Top layer is light enough for some blowing/drifting, but the bottom inch or so is concrete. Not the most fun to shovel, but should be good to build a snowman later with my housemates!
  11. storm total of just under 7.5 inches in west humboldt park. some of the driest snow I’ve seen in a while. it’s already compacted down some in the hour since I took this pic.
  12. Just got done sweeping up all the seedpods on my property and clearing out the drains. Last summer when we got that torrential flash flood in Chicago, I had neglected to sweep up debris and my husband and I spent hours out in the rain clearing the drain over and over again to keep water from backing up into our basement. Hoping for a bit less rain all at once this time!
  13. the rotation northeast of rochelle is headed directly towards me (well, in an hour at least). curious to see if it holds together or bows out like always.
  14. Hazy sunshine on the west side of Chicago right now.
