  1. Snow started in Halifax about an hour ago. No real transition from flurries, to light snow to rippage - it went from nothing to near white out in 5 minutes. Most of the models had us only seeing 6-8 inches but I don’t think there’s any way we don’t bust high. Congrats to all of you down there who are getting slammed! I will be thrilled if we see half of what most of you guys seems to be getting.
  2. I’m sure you miss it but hope you have had opportunities to visit during the winter. I am in Atlantic Canada now yes, but I grew up in the Baltimore area and lived there my whole life until last year. Some parts of Atlantic Canada can get extreme snowfalls yes, but with Halifax being right on the Ocean the average snowfall in recent years has been 3-4 feet. Certainly nothing to complain about and it feels more like the winters I had as a kid growing up in the 90s in Baltimore, which I dearly missed with the lower totals we’ve seen in the last 10-15 years.
  3. We’ve never interacted but I’ve been lurking these forums for 10+ years now and just wanted to say how much I love your enthusiasm and how much joy you bring to every obs thread I read. Even though you moved away it’s really nice to see you still cheering everybody on here. I had always seen references to your jebwalks and pieced together what they meant from context, but it’s cool to learn the genesis of them. I just recently moved away from the mid Atlantic (although luckily to a more snowy area) but still find myself lurking here because I miss the vibes and there is no CanadianWX equivalent. So it’s nice to still read these threads and see your posts. Very comforting in a way and a reminder of home!
  4. Have about 3” so far in Halifax. Rates are moderate and wind is picking up. The death band has been teasing me and is trying to encroach but has been sitting right off the coast for a couple hours. As of now it looks like the ICON will have been the closest, the others seem like they may have busted low.
  5. Yeah the Canadians look decent but Ukie is showing a bust for the southern half of the province including Halifax. Although looks like so far the system is west of what the globals have been predicting? Will be interesting to see what the short range models show in the morning.
  6. My wife is barely surviving NS winter, Newfoundland would break her
  7. Euro and GFS have been poop for NS the last couple runs, so I’m hugging the ICON.
  8. Yeah the last couple runs have been rough. Looking like a rug pull after it seemed like a lock for a few days straight
  9. It sure is beautiful up here, can’t wait to explore the Cabot Trail ourselves and cape Breton in general. We moved for my wife’s job, here on a couple year work permit but hoping to make it permanent. The snow weenie in me is thrilled at that possibility
  10. I’ll keep an eye out for their posts. And thank you!
  11. I don’t know if anyone else in this forum is lurking from NS but I am and am so excited for this storm! Sorry it looks like it’s going to be a miss for y’all. It’s my first winter since moving from mid Atlantic and it’s shaping up to be a great one!
  12. Make that three of us! This forum I guess is the closest thing to discussion for Atlantic Canada. It’s my first winter up here since moving from MA, there seems to be less interest in chasing winter weather.
  13. How are totals comparing so far to the models? I’m in Nova Scotia and the, GFS, Euro, and HRRR are giving me pretty different totals and wondering which one has been most accurate so far. Also off topic but I moved here from the states and can’t seem to find a Canadian equivalent to this site. Anybody know of any?
  14. When is the coastal part of the storm supposed to take over?
  15. Didn’t someone say they would eat their hat if the NAM verified?
  16. Wow a lot of people completely dismissed the 12k NAM from this morning but so far it seems like it has done the best.
  17. Feel bad for the amazon prime now delivery person who is just now leaving Arlington to deliver up here in Baltimore. I guess they still haven’t reopened the Baltimore warehouse.
  18. Roads starting to cave in NW Balt city. This yellow band is doing well right now. So excited to see this so early.
