  1. Went to a outdoor concert nw of Harrisonburg last night in Orkney Springs near the WV border and it turned cold after sundown very fast... Very unique late August-temp wise..
  2. Perfect weather in every way possible... except dry. Finished with 0.33 in August..
  3. Absolute soaking in Albemarle/Charlottesville probably over 1 inch already...
  4. Quick little storm.... Definitely had a bit of wind ... 0.26 0.28 monthly total now...
  5. Only 0.02 for the month to date.... following a big July.. Grass looks the best its looked in a couple months though, brown moldy spots disappearing... Streams coming out of the southern National Park in both eastern Augusta and western Albemarle are running very low though - especially since its August and everything is still green/growing and using water...
  6. Looking at these 0Z models, except the GFS... That would be problematic to say the least.. A repeat of last September simply wouldn't be good.. Except for Debby in August ( some creeks were dry again 3 weeks later ) - the major drought kept widespread problems along the main rivers to a minimum although some local spots had significant smaller creek flood damage....
  7. Going back to August 1st last year when the tropics with Debby started to change things down here... Despite some dry months over the last 12 months - huge difference from the previous 12 months.. August 2023 to July 2024 --- 29.25 August 2024 to July 2025 --- 49.47 Last 6 months 23.37 Same period last year. 11.25 Overall much better than the past 2 years....
  8. 0.66 today Monthly total 6.82..
  9. Looks like the classic Charlottesville area beat down incoming... Very high rainfall rates south of town at work... FFWs already popping...
  10. 0.62 earlier , Very strong winds for a couple of minutes... 3 day total of 1.10 Up to 6.16 for the month so far.. Much better by almost 3 inches over June..
  11. Just managed to get clipped by the very southwestern edge - the last 1/5 of a mile of the storm... Got 0.23 in the gauge....
  12. One heck of a powerful storm just to my north by a mile , Stormy should be getting rocked... Just drove through it at least 2 inches had to have fallen in spots...
  13. Just got home, picked up about 0.25 at some point this late afternoon/evening....
  14. They had been numerous the past 2 years down here in northern Waynesboro... For whatever reason the past 2 years they would swarm and sit on the siding on the south facing wall...Too fast to kill unless you spray something.... However the numbers in my yard have been down this year so far...
  15. Impressive indeed, but am i reading/understanding that graph wrong ? Too much work must be frying my brain - Or too much alcohol after work , Is College Park semi arid...? Is this a new recording station ? 1976 to 2025 ?
  16. Was a unique storm that's for sure... Only 0.03 since that one... radar currently looks okay but im not at home to know for sure....
  17. Nasty cell at work in Charlottesville.. Not getting out of the work vehicle in this...
  18. Lol. Looking at radar from work near CHO... My backyard got completely skipped by a near solid line that developed a hole just before getting to Waynesboro... Time to see what the 2nd line may do.. Honestly the radar dosent seem as widespread as I thought it might be..
  19. 0.02 today for a three day total of flood watches of 0.03... Never seen that before.. Not that we need rain - got slammed Sunday - monthly total approaching 4.50... Remain torn on these daily flood watches , there is no doubt that where these storms in this moist atmosphere set up-fast and significant flash flooding can occur.. We haven't reached the technical ability yet to pinpoint exactly where that will be - like identical supercells out in the plains - one might produce a significant tornado but the other dosent... However there is no doubt that any tornado watch out west will be taken much more seriously than a flood watch around here.. However to the average person - non weather fanatic who knows nothing about the details , daily flood watches showing up on phone weather apps without a large synoptic or tropical system that's all over the news or social media kind of creates a yeah ok whatever attitude......
  20. Surprisingly picked up 1.21 earlier today... From a cell in western Albemarle that started back building to the northern edge of Waynesboro... Usually that will happen in the southern part of town along or south of 64 with nothing up here...
  21. And there is the first ffw of the day for Nelson County...Can certainly hear the rumbling thunder....
  22. Most of the rain has been stolen by Nelson / Albemarle Counties the past week... Lol its astonishing how many storm clusters have repeatedly developed there night and day lately... Multiple ffw the past few days... Look at the radar another huge cluster over the same place already !
  23. Sitting on my front porch can see a nice lightning display and hear some faint thunder from another flash flood warned storm across Afton in Nelson County near or just east of the Wintergreen area....
  24. Im beginning to believe that my backyard and yours cannot both do well in the same time period during thunderstorm season... I've already matched June down here so far in July... Most of my June rainfall came in two individual thunderstorms...
  25. Just got home from work to a surprisingly nice 0.50 from a tstorm cluster that popped up.... The best year for thunderstorm rainfall here in my backyard in the past few years...
