@rgwp96 7" here on the dot with an icy crust on top, we were forecast to get a few inches just a couple of days ago.  Never went to rain, just sleet.  Impressive storm for November 15th.

Amazing how ill prepared this state was (the metro as a whole really).  We've had far worse storms that were handled better.

Think it had to do more with toming  and intensity and the type of snow itself .  Snow seemed very grainy and icy texture . Probably low ratios . Snow stuck almost instantly to pavement .  Also started as heavy sleet for about 15-20 minutes  before switching to snow

The 12z NAM has been spot on so far with the positioning of Michael. The forecasted 15z position is almost identical to the current position of the center.

I would put the odds extremely low that anyone outside of coastal NJ or Long Island receives much rain from Michael itself.

With that being said, we're going to remain in the moist Southwest flow for the next several hours which will give us intermittent periods of convection. The cold front is still back over Central Ohio currently.

.68 fell by me in a short period in Morris county

Wow!  A shout-out to my old home town - lived there 1950-71.  Wonder if that reading came from the Smoke Rise section, which includes the town's highest elevations.  (We lived near West Fayson Lake @ 700'.)  Anyway, an excellent discussion - thanks.

I've been recording my wx obs at 9 PM since 1/1/76, and continued to do so after joining cocorahs in 8/09.  So my board-clearings come at those 2 times.  (For the current storm it was 9.0" at 9 PM and 5.0" at 7 AM, and for this time at least, the gain in depth - 23" to 37" - was equal to the sum of the 2 measurements.)

No it came from your old area fayson lakes . I believe the actual road was cliff trail

Per the NJ state climatologist: "When things were reconsidered in 2012, the 6-hour option was removed except for "when instructed."

Now, I'm not sure of the frequency of this usage, but apparently the 6-hour option is not in use, only when instructed to do so by the NWS (usually airport).

Tom it seems Nj removed a report of 31 inches off their report last week because the spotter told them he used the clearing off method.  Most areas in my county got 23-25 inches and that town which borders mine came in with 31 . Some questioned it and it was taken off the report .
