  2. OK. After making a rookie mistake passing out outside and having 4 inches of snow covering me in the morning, (and being freezing could) I have made an investment. I bought a sleeping bag! Check it out: Details Made for the world's most extreme mountaineering expeditions Rated down to -40F for the coldest, highest mountains 4lb 10oz weight is light for sub-zero temperature class 850+ fill power goose down offers elite loft and packability GORE Infinium adds premium windproof, water-resistant protection V-Block Side Baffles and horizontal baffles keep down in place Double Interlocking Draft Tubes, down collar ruff seal in heat Made is the USA with careful attention to quality and detail. I love Jeb Walks, but I'm older know and have lost some mobility. The "new" jebwalk is drinking heavily outside next to the fire pit and sleeping in the snow! Nothing like it! Also, quick question, how much snow for Georgetown?
  3. I seriously apologize for my outbursts last night. I was almost through a handle and was sitting by the fire pit. I decided to stay outside and watch the snow. It stopped four a couple hours and I panicked. I ended up sleeping (passed out) outside. I was covered by 4 inches of snow in the morning. No blanket just my jacket and snow pants. My wife couldn't find me and called me at 6 am. The call woke me up to a winter wonderland! F the Jeb walks! Just bitch, sleep outside during a storm, and see what you get! I was a cold old man this morning! With all the Georgetown jokes, I'm hoping for legendary status for years to come.
  4. How many Tacos will I get in Georgetown??? Seriously, nobody has been cooking for 3 hours! I don't think I'm getting any tacos tonight!
  5. DD- I;m not sure how I offended you. My apologies. I thought this was an observation thread. As of the last three hours, there has been no snow INMBY. I am getting misty, freezing drizzle. Is that not OK to report?
  6. Still no flakes in Georgetown (DC) for several hours. It's now a misty rain. What are we to expect?
  7. First time posting in the panic room. Jebus, it snowed all day here in Georgetown (DC) but no flakes for almost 3 hours now. Now its a light drizzle of rain after no parcipatation for hours. What gives? Am I done with snow? About .5 on the ground.
  8. You can't be serious! I will take all the rest of my posts to the panic room. NO snow for the last 2 hours. I have a light drizzling rain now, and I mean very light! Where is the snow?
  9. wow. just walked the dog. still not a flake I Georgetown. as I was getting close to home, a light drizzle started but no snow.
  10. I must be. It's now been an hour with nothing.
  11. Nothing. Not a single flake for the last 30 minutes. It's depressing.
  12. I am not panicking...YET...but it has been snowing, in various forms from pixie dust to legit light snow here in Georgetown (DC) all day. Now there isn't a flake in the sky. I thought the heavier amounts of snowfall should be happening now through the overnight hours. Am I in a temporary snow hole? Planes are taking off from DCA or maybe landing because I can hear them on my semi -Jeb walk with the dog. What should I expect? I know its an IMBY post. Sorry!
  13. Thanks mappy! I know you have been here long time as well as Ji. I should have mentioned you earlier. I still don't get the cray cray on here about snow and why people fight about snow (regarding model runs, Kuchera rates, etc..). WTF?
  14. So, I'm sure I will get crushed by this post, but... Is following weather really your hobby? Why not golf, trap and skeet, sking...things you can control? NS, TPV, phasing, trough, suppression, etc...? I won't lie. I am a snow lover and have lurked on this forum in winter for years when there is a chance of snow. I have done the same when I owned a home in the Outer Banks when a hurricane was predicted. I think I was here when this site was Eastern weather (but I'm old, so I could be wrong}. I know of Jeb walks, Wes Junker, Bob Chill back in the day and many others. Pro Mets (red taggers) make their living by observing and giving their best advice/prediction/forecast on their knowledge and what they have observed. I am very appreciative of these people taking time to post here. I also appreciate those that are here to learn and contribute. However, it has always been a pissing match between amateur observers about forecasts. There is also a weird dynamic between those that love snow (clinging to the best model run) and those that are more pessimistic. What gives? The weather will do what it does.
  15. Thank you so much for answering my question!
  16. I sincerely thank you for your comment!
  17. This may be banter, so I apologize in advance if I'm breaking rules. I live in DC and have a freshman at PSU. We are driving from DC to State College Sunday, leaving about 10:30. I have no experience with Central PA weather. On a good days it takes about 4 hours to get to State College (after stopping in Breezewood for a break). Even on good days the fog at higher elevations on 70 is terrifying. Everything I have seen forecasted for State College is 4-8 inches. What is your formats for State College? Also, do you think the roads will be ok Sunday? Thank you so much for your help. There are thousands of kids driving back to PSU this weekend. Any advice is welcome!
  18. Hello PSU! I have a question for you. Thousands of kids are driving to State College from the DMV and surrounding areas this weekend. What is you take for State College and the surrounding areas for snowfall amounts and driving conditions Sunday? Breezewood is almost the half way point from DC to State College and even during fall days the fog on 70 )at the upper elevations) gives almost zero visibility. I can't imagine the fog and snow combined. Thanks for your help! I appreciate it.
  19. Hello All! I posted a similar question on the Penn sub forum but wanted to ask here as well. I have a freshman kid at Penn State in State College, PA. I am going to drive from DC to State College on Sunday. I have never driven to SC in winter conditions. Can anyone give me an idea of how much snow to expect in central PA? Do any of you know how the roads hold up traveling to State College? Thank you for Amy information you can share with me!
  20. Hello all! I live in DC but I have a kid that is a freshman at Penn State. I am scheduled to drive to State College on the 7th, the first day the dorms are open for students to return. As it is my first time driving to State College in winter weather, can you help me know what to expect on snow totals and the roads? I really appreciate it!
  21. Rant on: I've been in the shadows here since the early days. I think it was Eastern Weather back then. I know this is a hobby for most people here, but why all the vitriol on every guidance, maps, etc on everything that comes out? There are a couple people that I trust, mostly the red taggers, and I appreciate the discussion to a point from the non-Mets. I joined the forum to learn from others, and try to get an understanding of our weather. BUT, I don't understand the bravado of being "correct" on a storm that is 7 days out? What gives? I will be extremely happy if we see a white Christmas in DC proper. It hasn't happened in quite some time. Take it easy - it's only weather.Take care and happy holidays to you all! I will comment again in 3 years if that's cool.
  22. This may be my third post in more than 20 years of lurking this site (and the other earlier iterations of it) and I still can't get a handle on all the vitriol that people post about the weather. Especially when it comes to snow. Mother Nature is going to do what it does. I'll take what I get and am happy with it. I wish there was a gambling site called "Weather Kings" or something like it so all the posters that are doom and gloom or others like DT that always seem to be bullish put their money where their mouth is. I have no problem with posters making predictions on their "knowledge" of the maps but put up or shut up. I appreciate all the Red taggers and some of the long time members like Bob Chill for teaching me much about the weather here. Ive lived in DC proper since 92 and have seen some incredible storms. I hope to see another soon. Good luck to the snow lovers and thanks to all of the knowledgable posters over the years!
  23. I have been lurking since the days of Eastern Weather or even before, Had a few tonight. I have lived in DC for 30 years butI haven't logged in forever Obviously I am a novice. I'm no Bob Chill, PSU or a red tagger. Help me get this storm straight after the disappointment of last weekend where we got a warning from the NWS but received 0.0 inches in Georgetown, DC. So we have a storm coming that may or may not bring snow to metro DC. It may be suppressed to the south. Maybe a fish storm. Possible mixing issues. Looking for WAA and rates. It NEEDS rates. Looking at the 850 line. Over running storm. Need banding and have to beat the sun angle. Marginal surface temps, We all hope to get NAMed but we all bow to King Euro. We all want to see the RGEM clown snow map that was dropping 40 inches on us (only to end up with ZERO). Let's take a blend of the GFS, ICON, Canadians, SREFS and look at the nests, We also should lookout for the MESOS in the short term. Cyclogenisis, Bombogenisis, and Frotogenisis will all play a role in how this plays out . Dendrite growth has potential to make this an over producer. It could be puking snow or it could be pixie dust. Take your ciimo into consideration. It may tick north or maybe south, depending on how much of a weenie you are. It's all about trends. I'll take it and call it a winter! Winter is cancelled! Ji is an asshole. Take it to banter. If it verifies, verbatim, its 13 inches for DC. I'm taking a Jeb walk Maybe two. This is obviously just my attempt at humor. I know it's not good. Help me with your favorite quotes over the years! STORM MODE!!! You guys are funny. Stay safe!
