Snowing here, wind is whipping. (43mph gust) NWS is really hammering the message about brief snow squall conditions and snow covered roads for the morning commute. We’ll see how much sticks tomorrow morning.

Flurries imby. Daytime high of 34 today.

Low of 28 in Minneapolis. The first official freeze of the season. Outdoor dog bowl is frozen, and our tomato plants are dead. Pretty unusual to have our first hard freeze occur under overcast skies.

Foggy, drizzly, dreary day. 0.70” of rainfall today, temps stuck in the mid 50s but that’s all about to change.

What is this heat some of you speak of?
55 yesterday 56 today at msp. 1.34” of rain yesterday and another inch tomorrow, then the bottom drops out.
P&C has a high of 34 Saturday with snow showers.

Trying to squeeze in lots of yard work today before I watch the Bears “play football.” Picture perfect fall day, full sun, morning in the upper 30s and will get to around 60 today. Next weekend looks like we could be stuck in the mid 30s with a few flakes flying.

The oaks took a big turn here 3 days ago. They’ve been dropping leaves like crazy passing up the maples which turned last week.

Bismarck special looks most likely.
I doubt we see any accumulation, but I’m thinking the first flakes of the season are looking more likely in the time frame. Still way way way to far off though, could go poof on the next model run.
There is recent precedent, 10/20/20 saw 7.9” of accumulation at MSP. -

Down to 38 here overnight. Average first freeze for Minneapolis is October 10th and we are looking at no freezing weather in site.
90% of years have a freeze in Minneapolis by 10/26.

Rained until just south of Duluth on us. Colors are still great up here. Maples are done but the birch/aspen, and the underbrush are ablaze.

Storm total rainfall just surpassed 1” at the airport. Looks like an all day rainer to make packing the car and tossing on the roof box enjoyable.

Rain is slowly spreading north towards the metro. Looks like 2-3” of beneficial rain area wide. Glad I don’t have to work in it tomorrow. All day soaker.
One last hurrah before winter sets in, taking the family camping up north this weekend. We’ll be at Tettegoche State Park along Lake Superior. Might be setting myself up for an interesting weekend, we’ll have the dog, our 2 year old, and my wife who is 6 months pregnant.

Not that its any consolation, but remember Im talking days with 1"+ snowcover, so that doesnt count days of a Trace snowcover (a dusting or patches).
Honestly TN averages less lol. Knoxville averages 5 days per winter of 1"+ snowcover & Nashville averages 6 days.
For Detroit, the longterm avg is 50 days.

I’m a bit surprised at the record for days with 1” snowcover. I would have thought Detroit had a few winter with over 100 days.
Posting stats for Minneapolis as a comparison and humble brag for last winter.
