It is complex. Treasury bonds being purchased by the public, borrowing from other countries (I believe believewe actually owe China some 1+ trillion making them our largest debt load) the bonds are eventually bought back by the US and we get our cut, or those that purchased bonds to fund the loans.

Up to 50% of the population is not able to be affected by Covid. It would be beneficial to have the new testing out that can tell if you were positive in the past or if you cannot be affected. This would help an enormous amount of our country to getting back to normal

Being an "at will" state makes me cringe. Like yourself I've been in some sort of banking/finance for the past 12 years and I too have witnessed the here today gone tomorrow routine. I think unfortunately this opens the doors of favoritism to certain employees and unfair practices to others. Why we haven't gone the way of an actual reason to be let go is archaic.

My wife has a good friend whose husband works for CSX. He has moved from buffalo, to Syracuse to now in South Carolina. He makes approximately 130k a year as an engineer for rail freight hauling. You can bet the amount of money the the rail lines can save from paying workers those wages AND the pension they receive will force the issue soones than later imo.

What strikes me about the article above is it does mention family size was much larger 30 to 40 years ago when having 3 or 4+ kids was not uncommon. Today 1 or 2 is the norm and people think my wife and I are out of our minds because we have 3. That cost of living off sets the wages we earn as to the amount we spend. What is also interesting about the article is the very last paragraph. It states as a whole we are afraid of robots taking jobs. I think that's a real concern outside of a few industries. Automated telemarketers, electronic ordering at restaurants, bank-less tellers...and with this new pandemic I only see this increasing much more in the next 20 years. What used to be industrial is now electronic and were never going back.

From what I've learned is they look to the strain of flu in the southern hemisphere and do there best to try and copy the virus and make a vaccine for it...this gives them approximately 4 months to do so.

I saw today on CBS this morning that elderly and people of color were at the greatest risk of contracting and perishing from Covid-19. I have been silently wondering about this over the past weeks if a certain race was more likely to contract than others. Thus is the first time this has been brought up as fact.

That makes the death rate much lower. If it can be said that for every 1 person showing symptoms theres 1 that's not. That means the 256k showing symptoms one could deduce there are 250k more positive but asymptomatic. That would take the death rate in the US to around 1%.

Yes she us considered disabled with her diagnoses. It's palliative in that she can never achieve full heart function, and had to have the 3 surgeries to compensate for the malformation. The only place is disagree is Medicaid being specific to the poor. As stated earlier my daughter has it and it's not predicated on my wife and my income but her health condition she will have her whole life. My concern does not come from the lack of people who can get Medicaid, it's the abuse of Medicaid from people who are are rigging the system for all sorts of benefits. I also have my life accident and health license. The long term care policies have changed quite a bit from when I first began where you had to guess the daily amount you wanted to I sure for, say $350 a day. It has since changed to a number of years and a total amount of coverage. What hasn't changed is how costly it is, but if you can use a fixed vehicle specific for premiums you can offset that cost out of pocket.

I agree with This. When my daughter was first born, as some of my old WIVB bloggers remember, she was in the PICU at strong memorials children's wing for 7 1/2 months. 2 open hearts surgeries, one bowel and stomach surgery, countless x-rays, KUB'S, 24/7 medication...the total bill was a shade over 1.4 million. We had (have) great insurance but what saved us is our daughter received Medicaid right from the get go. That alone saved us probably $50 to 100k in what insurance wouldn't have covered...her condition is why she was eligible for Medicaid not out financial circumstance. So while I do believe insurance for all COULD work it still wasn't enough on its own to save us from what could've been a pretty difficult financial obligation.

My wife just mentioned to me about 30 minutes ago that one if the day shift CNA'S tested positive today. She was last at the facility on Sunday so they're doing what they can to sanitize even more. I of course am concerned with my wife and children but also for the elderly residents...this could be bad.

What were truly fighting is not this first wave but the second one to follow. We have to have a plan in place for that inevitably. We cannot just shut down and isolate again 6 months from now.

I have nothing but vitriol for the New York State Department of health. Late to the party is an understatement. My wife is an MDS coordinator (RN) and has witnessed the worst conditions at her facilities even prior to this pandemic. The state dept is supposed to run checks in the form of what's considered survey of the facility. If the NY State dept of health had any semblance of a clue this facility would be either be faced with thousands of dollars in fines, owners forced to sell it or closed all together...instead they are given the equivalent of a 10 second time out. They are incredibly inept.

Syrmax I have agreed with your logic for some time on this. There are people only concerned with the actual numbers that are reported but what about the estimated numbers? How many people actually go to the Dr. like BW said when they have flu-like symptoms? I have a fever or chest congestion that knocks me on my ass for days at least once a year and I don't go to my GP. What I find fascinating is that the death rate world wide is more likely about 2.5% if everyone was tested. Plenty of people with no symptoms or very mild symptoms but are positive. I believe as Iceland is reporting makes that case.

I think the number of cases really skews the ratios of hospitalization and death rate. I've been beating this drum for about a week now and Syrmax brought it up yesterday.

I wonder if there is a way to sterilize a once used mask again?

Does anyone believe there is a number out there that will satisfy the government, state or federal that will allow these restrictions to be lifted or lessened? My reasoning is this. China was reporting little to no new cases for a few days to a week or so and then allowed travelers who were away from home cone back bringing a second but smaller wave. If just travel alone can spark a rise in the viral spread then I fear this will be months of our new normal and lots of unrecoverable job loss. Thoughts?
