  1. QUick question, is most of the accumulating snow coming from the first batch during the day on Sunday or the 2nd batch Sunday night? Looked to me like temp issues and white rain might be a concert with the first batch with the second batch being for for NW Jersey without temp issues later at night.

I am just a mid Atlantic poster looking for clarification on where and when to chase this one and it appears to be a little tricky. Can't decide if I am after the 1st or second part of the storm. If I am going to NY State or NW Jersey. Thanks!

I think you mean the time that Gen. Washington surprised the Hessian troops at Pearl Harbor and prevented them from bombing it!

Off topic. But On Dec 31st at 2am we did the 13 mile march from Trenton to Princeton. Full gear and muskets sling. I did the whole thing, didn't once need to get in the chase car. I was proud of myself. My body held up. Without sleep, my mind started to go. I was thinking and saying things that didn't make sense.

40  white dudes dressed in 18th century clothes walking through Trenton at 2am with guns just as the bars are letting out. Can you imagine the reaction that got? I can!

I gotta disagree with you on this one.  The people who constantly complain on this forum are much worse than the people who object to it.

Disagree personally. If you aren't sad when we don't get snow. Why are you here?  There is nothing wrong with venting. We have threads for it. It gets removed in the model thread.

So at this point, complaining about the complainers is some type of moral high road superiority thing. Clearly.

Here's the thing Rev, we all view the world through our own lenses/perspectives. We just walked out of an 8 day snow covered stretch mostly below freezing with 6-12" of snowfall in one week. Full coverage of excellent sledding and hiking snow for an entire week+ and the scenery was outstanding. That simply doesn't happen here often at all and that's a hard fact. It was a remarkable winter week in any winter. And what you are criticizing is people enjoying and being satisfied with a rare and beautiful  anomalous week of winter weather.

You obviously hated it and and nearly every post you make is a glass half empty. And you really want people to see it your way. Majority of people are actually optimistic on the balance and can be satisfied with the small things in life. Instead of criticizing that, maybe.... maybe consider trying to add some of that into your life. Satisfaction and happiness is a free will choice that we all make every single day. It's free, harmless, and the payoff is huge.

I am not making the argument that last week wasn't good and that people shouldn't have enjoyed it. I enjoyed it, and made tons of positives posts on it. Go back and look. I was nothing but positive.

I am simply saying that there is nothing wrong with being frustrated with going back to a blow torch pattern right after; A shut the blinds pattern, and people trying to claim we are now in fact "spoiled" and we should "know our climo" when in fact we are well below average.

I guess what I am saying in, the people who COMPLAIN ABOUT THE COMPLAINERS are actually far worse than the complainers themselves.

Also- this is the panic room. Find me one, just one post this year where I complained in the model thread. It doesn't exist.

I haven't seen anyone acting like last week "makes up for" our awful run of winters. I've seen people who love winter and gotten out and enjoyed a wintry scene while it was around.

I'm very annoyed by the past 8 years. It's pretty much daily that I think about the fact that its been 8 years since my last 6+ inch snowfall. I'm annoyed that we're going to punt the last week or January and likely the first week of February. I'm unhappy that there's really only been 1 week that's felt like winter so far. You're absolutely not alone in that.

I still didn't let all those very real negative feelings stop me from enjoying last week. I took lots of great pictures and ventured out to enjoy it. I spent many moments glancing out the window at the snow covered scenery, just taking it in. None of that takes away the winter frustrations overall, but it provides joy and positive memories from being in the moment.

I think most, if not all, from this forum who shared their joy from the past week feel very similarly. Being joyful in the moment doesn't at all mean that the overall landscape still isn't good. You still have to stop and enjoy the little things because if you don't, you'll just become bitter and frustrated 24/7, no matter what.

Yeah- I have nothing wrong with celebrating and enjoying the last week. I just think some are like "know you climo" suddenly when in fact our climo is still well below average.

    *Takes quick glance at stats*

So, Newark is about 50/50 BWI to PHL, BWI seasonal average to date is 6.9 and PHL is 8.0, so I'll go 7. If you are at 8, then you ARE running above average. Would we ALL like to have more? You bet! But saying this past week wasn't good and a relief to many snow starved folks is a bit much.

    *takes a glance at stats**

We average about15 inches of snow a year. So we are only about half to AVERAGE.

Its truly hilarious that 1 week of winter and 8 inches of snow totally erases the last 8 years for you all and you somehow think we are doing great. LOL!

lmao you live in Newark Delaware - not sure what you're expecting.

People act like our little 1 week of winter where we got 8 inches of snowfall suddenly makes up for the last 8 years of garbage. It doesn't. We are still below average for the year even.

Cool.  See you in here next winter.  Your postings will be missed.

This is the panic room. Save your endless complaining about the complainers for the model thread!

As for me, I am chasing a foot+ snowstorm somewhere into NY State this weekend. I have haven't left winter. Im just leaving this garbage climo area.

  9. I think our one week little snowfest might have been it. Heck that might be it for the next 5-10 years the way things are now.

My thoughts have now turned towards a chase. Hope upstate NY can score next weekend. Gfs hinted it at off and on. If so…. I’ll be there

I identified a threat to track 10 days out in a 'shit the blinds' pattern in late Dec of 21 and it ended up a great snow event for much of our sub forum. See? not pointless, and sometimes advertised 'shit the blinds' patterns(subjective) at range don't always turn out that way.

Psu just literally went from best pattern ever to shut the blinds in the course of a week. That to me just shows how pointless LR tracking truly is.

Sure- you might have spotted a storm. But isn't that broken clock right twice a day? How many LR storms become non events, I'd say a good 95%?

I'll be enjoying my 8" of snow over the past 5 days and then I'll get back to you

Yeah- to be fair, this storm is a waste for me. I wish it wasn't happening. I can't get any enjoyment out of it due to certain circumstances. I curse the timing of it so bad. Thats a personal problem. SO I am already passed it.

But the Tuesday one was nice.

I do not think Feb 1-10 will be a no hope torch.  But, the pattern progression is being delayed by the slow down of the Pacific forcing migrating east.  It's stalling in the western pacific for about a week.  This is leaving us in kind of a blah pattern in early February.  I could see an STJ wave cutting under and enough cold around with that PNA ridge to get something to work if we're lucky.  But the PNA ridge looks rather modest now, and the +++NAO is likely going to make it difficult to be cold enough until we get the more ideal pacific, and its likely a moot point anyways because once the wave starts to progress into the central pacific it kick starts the process of tanking the NAO again anyways.  We're likely looking at Feb 10-15th or so before the pattern gets REALLY good again.

I know this is not what anyone wants to hear, patience isn't the best virtue of some here, but Mid Feb is NOT too late to pull out a good finish.  1958 really got going mid Feb.  And before someone says but its warmer now...2015 got going mid Feb too and that was not that long ago.  You know I will lean on warming when I think its a part of the equation, but Feb and March are being affected by warming way less that earlier in winter...assuming the waters ever do cool...right now places in the tropical Atlantic are running normal temps for July FFS.

Its not that we aren't patient people here. Its thats delayed but not denied usually morphs into=Denied.

  13. Nice little overperforming storm.

It does concern me that we can't get accumulating snows on the street with temps in the 20's during the day. Its kind of amazing how wet this storm was considering how cold it was. I don't remember that in the past. 20's= cold powder blowing across the street.

  14. A very light dusting up on Iron Hill in Newark de. This is looking northeast up I-95 towards Wilmington (which is visible on a clear day). I love coming to this spot because you can look upon thousands of people and crazy construction  and be totally alone.

  15. DT has to be in a weird spot. Loves the Euro, hyped the Tuesday storm and pretended like his favorite model was not against him. Euro sniffed out the no storm and the GFS caved. Now he will just pretend like his previous posts didn't happen and anyone calling for a snowstorm on Tuesday is a "moron"
