A couple nights ago Ron Hearst at KY3 came out with his winter forecast. Really went all out with his forecast, calling for somewhere between 7" to several feet of snow this winter. These winter forecasts are a joke.
Yeah, for sure. Its a long ways off, but I thought it was interesting that all three models were showing something in that general time frame. Something to watch at least. I'll try to look at the ensembles this evening to see if there is actually any support for it.
I'm hearing that there are a lot of wrecks in the Springfield area. Still snowing at a moderate rate. I think the NWS definitely underestimated the impact of this one.
Ah. Makes sense. I know the SW portion of the SGF warning area, is very similar to Tulsa in terms of WSW drought. I don't even remember the last time I was under a Winter Storm Watch.
I wouldn't get too worried about it yet. AFD says to expect changes over the next 24 hours. One thing of interest, they are going with the NAM short term.
SGF has dropped totals by 1-2 inches area wide, by their own admission they are going on the low side of guidance. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Hopefully the AFD will shed some light on their thinking.
Just a brutal pattern this winter. Tons of moisture, an ok amount of cold air, time has just been way off. For all the talk leading into winter, this one has been one of the worst I remember.
