Emergency call from ship allowed authorities to close bridge and save lives, Maryland governor says
From CNN's Andy Rose
An emergency call from the container ship gave officials time to begin closing the Francis Scott Key Bridge to vehicle traffic before the ship slammed into it, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said on Tuesday.
“I'm thankful for the folks, once the warning came up and once notification came up that there was a mayday, who literally by being able to stop cars from coming over the bridge — these people are heroes. They saved lives last night,” Moore said.
That is some desperately needed encouraging news to come out of a horrible incident.

I know what you mean. When I was young, I once saw a video of a terrorist sawing the neck of a hostage and it set me back even to this day. Sometimes we do not need to see everything.
A saving grace is the time of day this happened, I guess. No comfort at all to those directly impacted, but an ever greater catastrophe was averted. Dear god if this happened at 5pm.
There are certain things that I cannot watch. I don't even want to list them. I do not have a strong stomach when it comes to human tragedies.

I really wish I would not have watched the video. I feel sick. Horrible, horrible way to start a day. My heart aches right now.

Looks like we are topping off at 52. For once the temp did not exceed predicts. NWS had 54 or 55 for MDT which is where they are sitting.
Double nickel high here today.

#ebayis4u. Is giving out scarves opening day similar to the groundhog declarations re: their forecast? Are the Phils saying cold spring?
I'm giving mine to my daughter. She can wear it each time she comes to visit the #acinmaytownzone.

Cut your grass wearing 70's basketball shorts, old school knee high white socks, shirtless with the scarf soaked in ice water around your neck

Peg takes it on the chops. If I were you I would not cancel yet. Every day it vacillates between rainy and just cloudy. And, I think there is still a chance of snow next weekend.
We're going whenever it happens, no cancelation here.
Phillies are giving out scarves on Opening Day. What am I going to do with a scarf? I don't ever wear gloves let alone that nonsense.

Definitely makes it ok to be outside despite it being 44 (the sun) but I am wearing slacks and long sleeve shirt. Breeze is just too cold for shorts here. I have pretty much put my summer wear away after looking at LR. I had broken it out in early March. Early March may be the high point for a while except a random day when a storm cuts. Your game may be dry yet though.
Mount Holly is essentially writing Thursday off. Coastal develops an slowly moves north up the coast. No clearing until at least Friday morning.
Nice win today. Capital gain.

Thursday and Friday look horrible for baseball in Philly.
Spring, please come back now.

Late March sun...
Went for a walk, despite temps in the upper 40s it was very warm in the sun. Myself and quite few others were in tees and shorts.

Gotta love the Sierra - there's a Special Weather Statement in place through Sunday morning. Scattered light snow showers will bring 5 - 10"+ by morning.
"Scattered Light Snow Showers."

Caps are shorthanded too and have a tough schedule. You are 4 points up and Caps have 2 games in hand. Flyers advantage right now as Caps would have to win both of those games. Finger crossed they both make it with one being a wild card.
That would be ideal. I do not dislike the Caps.

They need to keep winning with the Caps in the rear view :-). When I first read this, I was going to ask you why so excited over a Spring baseball game.
I don't know how we hold off your team. We are out-talented just about every game. Grit is carrying us...how far remains to be seen.
We have Florida tomorrow and then the Rangers. Brutal.

Another absolutely huge win for the Orange and Black. They just...will...not...quit.

Did not see anything frozen here and did not expect to. Anyone else? Looks like maybe just shy of a 1.5” here. Official measurement later. Off to a kids birthday party.
No - temp here was in the 40s during the final hours of rain.

1.57" final tally. Temp is 45.
-
Still a little light rain but skies are brightening. 1.56" in the bucket and up to 42 degrees.
-
Approaching 1.5" - rain is picking up but I'm riding the edge of the heavier rates. Has to be some 2"+ amounts in southern and eastern areas.
-
1.21" of rain so far with moderate rain. 38 degrees. A true soaker.

Philly is riding the edge on most models - either just inside or outside the area of rain. The trend has been to shift precip east towards the coast over the past 24 hours
