I know we’re all disappointed about the lack of snow, but this cold did not disappoint. In fact, I think it may have overperformed the models.

Looks like GSO got down to five, the coldest in eight years. One shy of the record. It hasn’t been colder in the Triad since 2000.

9 degrees in Winston-Salem. It’s so COLD in NC, I’m thinking of pulling a Ted Cruz!

Larry Cosgrove suggests El Niño is about to micjack La Niña:  “And before I forget: all of the ENSO models say that we start our climb into a weak El Nino next week. Hopefully that will stop the "Triple Dip" jabber once and for all.”

The Northern Hemispheric pattern setting up is probably the best we've seen since 09/10 and 10/11(if you like snow in the east). Anytime you get such extreme blocking in the Atlantic (-NAO), the model trends are usually in favor of increased amplification and cutoffs upstream. Aka any fart in the wind can turn into a SECS. This pattern will likely produce, but I wouldn't get too caught up in the individual model solutions this far out.
