The upcoming warm-up is a head fake. Antsy Gardeners can write off the first half of April.

Don't underestimate Winter Overtime this Year.

Joe Bastardi: GEFS every run bolder on the colder and in line with ideas from Feb on winter not leaving till well into April. Latest GEFS 5 day ending April 8 getting closer to extreme case on April 1982 https://t.co/gusgUrTtBQ

WFMY Tim Buckley: The lesson for all NC forecasters this winter should be, "High snowfall rates will overcome your warm air and warm ground"

Eric Webb: This CAD wedge in the medium range is absolutely absurd especially coming from the GFS which is notorious for underestimating CAD domes. #ncwx https://t.co/bZTeFZsoaX

ERIC Webb:
While there's time to sort this out, the large-scale pattern & some NWP models support the idea of wintry wx in NC/VA on Sunday. 1045 ish cold sfc highs in Quebec are highly anomalous for this time of the year & could supply/anchor enough cold air to support frozen precip #ncwx https://t.co/m5OoAeZxwZ

South of I-40 and below 2k ft I'd put money on it... probably a lot.
Okay. I am in the Triad.

Not necessarily

From a winter lover’s perspective, there is just no reasonable way you can grade this winter below a B+ for the Triad, heck almost all of North Carolina. Significant snow in early December AND mid March, plus several lows in the single digits. What a La Niña it was!

Meanwhile, Easter is looking cold.

How about Triad?

What's good for Mid Atlantic, is 99% of the time, not good for us. Don't remember 13/14 that well for us, but 95/96 was done for us after mid Jan
THe Mid Atlantic and North Carolina are closely connected if not sometimes synonymous, current seasonal snowfall nonwithstanding.

Negative AO will likely be stronger than modeled after January 15. Could be record breaking cold to finish out January, I'm not sure any type of -PNA can build against an arctic block right now.
How about duration? It would be hard to rival the duration of the cold we just experienced.

And NAM also sniffed out the Sandhills bonanza.

Winston-Salem and the Triad have done very well relative to climatology in snow this decade. It is the Loudoun County of the NC Piedmont.
