Hello again from DFW! I hope everyone gets SMOKED! -
Southern Crippler - Get well soon Jimbo Storm Obs

One last post from DFW. Thought we were done here and yet, the best looking snow I have seen is falling now than from the whole event. We have had flurries off and on all day. Not sure how much if any of this makes it y’all’s way. i am glad most of you managed to dodge major freezing rain. -
Yeah I wasn’t expecting this little bonus move.
-
Catching a few of what I guess are the lake effect flurries at the moment.
-
Sleeting hard again here.
-
Good early evening from DFW. We have had mostly sleet. Still maybe only an inch or but enough to not want to try going anywhere. NWS and the TX forum suggest heaviest is still yet to come. I hope you are all okay when it’s over. Check in again later.
-
Sleet is picking up over here in SW Lewisville.
-
One more quick statement and then I will just lurk again until something changes here, One of the guys I trust most on our sub forum is confident that the upper level temps are also dropping fast enough that there will actually be more snow than previously expected here. I hope it verifies and pushes east for you all.

Good morning again from DFW! Overnight not much has happened. There is little ice and a dusting of sleet. It’s 23* at the airport right now and the freezing rain/ice accrual concerns for here seem to be lessening. NWS is calling for sleet/snow mix to continue for at least another 24 hours. There are reports of heavy sleet in the area Hope you guys can dodge the ice. Stay safe everyone!

I am horrible at reading this stuff. So, I appreciate you guys with more experience. Are y’all thinking more sleet than ice around DFW?
-
Late PM Check in: WTF knows what’s gonna happen later but if NC matches DFW, you guys are gonna have at least 6 or 7 hours of COLD RAIN as an appetizer. Since I last reported the temp has only dropped about 4* to lower 40s now. I know the cold air is coming but what a dreary day so far. We’ll see what happens next. The more knowledge guys on our TX thread are struggling to figure this thing out.

Good morning from DFW. Since I lived in Rocky Mount NC up until 2017, I still enjoy keeping up with the SE forum. We are at the very beginnings of the event here just beside the airport. I work in Irving TX. Currently around 49 * and light to moderate rain. Temps aren't expected to be dropping here until early evening and overnight. That said, the guy I pay attention to most on the TX weather thread on the Central/Western sub forum thinks we are in for a significant amount of sleet in the area. I will post again when things get interesting here. I know there can be a correlation btw DFW and NC weather so it will be fun to see how that works.
-
Yes. According to NWS, things should start up mid to late afternoon Friday.
-
IIRC, the DFW to NC connection didn’t hold last time all of us from TX to the SE were supposed to get wintery precipitation. Once again, I will happily report in with what is happening 10 miles N of DFW airport.
-
When I saw it flurrying, I had not considered lake effect snow. I now know that if covering enough surface area, man made lakes can give us a little eye candy.
-
There is a little bit of “frizzle’ with a few flurries and occasional flake falling in South West Lewisville.

February 19-20 Major Winter Storm Threat
gwlee7 replied to NorthHillsWx's topic in Southeastern States
If they get what we’re currently getting 8 miles NNE of DFW, all anyone is getting is a cold, windy disappointment. Hardly any fzn on the trash can lid when I rolled them to the curb I do hope someone “back home” scores a decent hit though. -
My sister lives in what was our parents house just North of Leggett, NC, a little rural town in Edgecombe county not too far from Halifax Co.
-
Probably gonna issue a falling iguanas warning fpr Florida as well.
-
Is that actual snow N and W of DFW on the radar or just “noise”?
-
I think all the lack of model consensus is what’s been driving the SE folks crazy. I think I will try to find a less technical textbook or web based resource to start educating myself better on all these factors. I am fascinated by all of it except for when it decides to be hot and dry for 100 days in a row.
-
I am trying to learn more. What should I be looking for and which short range models do you like for TX? I know that my friends on the SE forum live or die a thousand deaths watching the long range models every time it gets cold and moisture is predicted in the area.
-
Lol. And here I was rooting for you guys from afar.
-
Good morning SE Forum!! This one seems to shaping up nicely for some of you. One thing that seems to be in your favor is that the snow breaking out in TX late Monday/Tuesday morning is expected to be considerably South of DFW than the last system. And if I am reading the maps correctly (an area in need of improvement for me) you have HP in the right place this time. i grew up In and lived in the Rocky Mount NC area for most of my life and that looks like a good spot but, I am rooting for all of you. Bring it on home guys!!

I am not a great model reader for the this part of the country. The SE forum was my “home” here for years until we moved to the DFW here in 2017 and I am more familiar with what it takes to get snow there. That said, it’s gonna take a major NW move of the Tuesday system for DFW to anything other than flurries correct? A 2025 goal of mine gonna be to become a better student of TX weather.
