  1. I find it slightly depressing that most of our early falls have been torches recently.
  2. Interestingly enough, most winters of the 1880s were actually over 30" in NYC. There were probably several smaller snowfalls throughout the decade.
  3. Allentown currently has 15.2" on the season, which certainly isn't anything spectacular. I don't think the number of snow days really tells the story in all cases.
  4. The cold hasn't really been anything to write home about either, save for Monday. Locally it's actually been rather warm, generally speaking. I'd be more content with the relatively snowless winter if it were accompanied by less rain and more sunshine.
  5. Well we had a decent storm in early December, a fairly large storm for coastal areas in early January, and an okay event for the interior in mid January. This year we've had little since the November event.
  6. I recall last year being much better at this point.
  7. This winter is admittedly starting to get to me.
  8. To me the historically cold February was the real story of 2014-15.
  9. In regard to the 70s and 80s, and really until 1994, the only winter that actually delivered a substantial seasonal snowfall was 77-78. To put things further into perspective, that was the only winter in Central Park with a seasonal snowfall greater than even thirty inches from 1970 to 1994. From the perspective of someone born in 1993, this seems almost mind-boggling considering recent trends.
  10. We could easily have a good period with a few decent storms in February and March, even if winter as a whole isn't a blockbuster.
  11. The snowfall depicted for much of the area seems excessive given the warming aloft, no?
  12. One of the great 20th century winters that I wish I was alive for. NJ's record peak snow depth of 52" was actually set at the Canistear Reservoir coop after the February storm. They also picked up 56" in just three weeks during that brutal stretch from mid January to early February, and nearly 105" for the season overall according to xmacis2. Pretty remarkable even by 2010s standards.
  13. I do see what you mean about periods like December 2015 being unsettling. As for that date last February, I found the fact that Allentown, Pa (generally a colder climate than NYC) hit 81 degrees to be downright disturbing. We've had many cooler July days with full sunshine.
  14. I disagree. December 2015 was at least historically warm enough to be somewhat enjoyable. This December has just been a chilly, dreary mess.
  15. First flakes beginning in Northern Warren County.
  16. Boston had 14.9 and even ORH only had 24.9 according to xmacis. I believe (though not certain) it was awful from Virginia to Maine.
  17. Yeah I didn't mean that it was historic everywhere, just that you'd be hard pressed to find a location that got completely screwed.
  18. I think 02-03 gets overlooked for how great of a winter it was for a wide geographic area. Most areas from the Mid Atlantic to New England and even into Central PA and Upstate NY were well above normal for snowfall. The consistency of the cold was pretty remarkable as well. Anything even remotely resembling that winter would be great.
  19. An MECS with a sharp cut off west of the city. Long Island pummeled.
