Saturday night/Sunday 12/13-12/14 Jawn

Comfortable calling it 7” here, though not to be confused with an official measurement. Was a good storm, especially for December, that reached its max potential. Happy it wasnt as localized as initially modeled and the meso’s caught the more expansive and robust precip coverage. I guess every now and then charlie brown can kick the ball before lucy pulls it. -

If ever there’s an acceptable time to show strangers pictures of your traschcans it’s during a snowstorm. -

How do you think euro ai did with this? Purely gut and eye test it seemed good to me. obs 4.67” at 635 -

Closing in on 3” and if eye-balling a liquid ratio is a thing it’s probably around 6:1. Jebber completed which was beautiful with the stickage and peaceful as you’d imagine at 4 am. Time for a nap as it won’t be as peaceful when the kids wake up. -

2” of great snowball snow at 335a. Moderate rate right now but heavier returns look incoming. Sounds like jebwalk time -

Yes i think the precip should start to blossom as this zips across the mountains and the coastal-y enhancement gets going. Hoping it stays later into the morning but could see the dreaded back edge approaching by dawn, so the earlier the start the better to reach those upper bounds. -

Yep first flakes and no rain here near washington crossing -
The precision is certainly high going back days. As a forum interloper, I hope the accuracy is as well.

Got up at 5 and just missed getting to see snow falling, but enjoying the coating I got. Latest HRRR says maaaybe Ill get some mood flakes in a bit if that stuff currently around west chester can make it north enough as it goes. Here’s hoping we can get some good trends or an overperformer from at least 1 of the 2 disturbances mid week and next weekend. Now for a day of housework, outdoor xmas lights, and conference championships. Cheers -

Certainly keeping one eye open being that the digital snow is showing up on a forecasted hour in the 100’s rather than 2 or 3 hundy, but the euro AI and cmc keeping it south is keeping my other eye closed..for now.. -

Rumbled for maybe 10 minutes before the skies went dark gray and the deluge started maybe 3 minutes after the downburst arrived. Precip came in hot and heavy but with kinda meh lightning. once the precip passed and lightened tho the thunder was a constant drum overhead for maybe 2 minutes and is still intermittent. Quick event but good (my motto) -

Power went out right before 6p Thursday and came back on today just before 3p. AC doesnt stand much of a chance today so hoping it “cools” off enough tonight to make some headway before the triple digits make an appearance. Seen yesterday west of Pennington. The thunder and lightning were average but wind was no joke. -

I dunno this was a failure of modeling as soon as 5 days out. Someone else has said it before but it does make you wonder about the usefulness of running ops out so far. Even the ensembles were pretty useless for a while, although they eventually offered some hints of failure. But in my jadedness I think anything more than 168 hours for the ops is a waste of resources. -

https://mercerme.com/winter-salt-week-raises-awareness-of-road-salt-impacts/ too late for this year and who knows what impact it has, but at least there is some effort towards judicious use out there. Roads are brined currently. Living near the Delaware and tributaries has definitely heightened my awareness. -

We’ve been ICON’d. It’s like being NAMd, but in German. -
I saw a brine truck doing its thing earlier and figured some advisories must have been hoisted. Then I had to think about what day it was and why they were doing it now. There's probably enough crushed salt left on the roads anyway (jk?) Not sure what to think about this event. Obviously not a blockbuster like potentially exists on the horizon, but it doesn't take much ice or sleet to make driving a dicey proposition. Happening overnight and into the Thursday AM commute may make this more impactful than face value.

I was probably 5 or 6 my first game and got sick right as we walked up to the stadium from car sickness. Saw the dodgers with my mom and a friend who explained to me that we were booing eddie murray “because he’s doing good”. (Looked it up and he hit 2 hr that day) went to the implosion with some friends after staying up all night, as kids in college will do. Went to philly around 230 for some cheesesteaks and then watched from packer ave off 76. and lots of good times there inbetween. to the Vet! Go birds!

1/19/25 Eagles Playoff Winter Storm obs
Physicsteve replied to Ralph Wiggum's topic in Philadelphia Region
With the back edge ever approaching, preliminary estimate is ~3” of white depth. A good amount of that is a snow/sleet combo so ratios have to be closer to an avg of the 3:1 sleet and 10:1 non-kuchie assumptions. Top layer is fluffy and pretty, but majority down below is dense. -

Recency bias, maybe? Never in my life been more accepting of dustings and coatings before. Anything 2”+ feels like a hurdle cleared and something I no longer take for granted (that’s what she said). -

Rollercoaster for sure. And sports ones don’t have alcohol and drug restrictions. Good times.
