  1. Yep. Plus the insurance they have to carry will get cheaper when everything is automated. Same goes for over the road trucking.
  2. Completely agree with the automation portion. I built my career on further automating food production. Its getting to the point now where two or three staff can run an entire plant. Give me a couple boston dynamics spots and I can do it with one person. I think eventually it will get to the point that some sort of universal income will be required, especially when freight transportation becomes completely automated.
  3. I find the article misleading and this is why. The fact that productivity has outpaced pay By 6X is completely expected (I would have expected that number to be higher) given technological advances, especially in the time frame given. The early 80s was when automation started to become widespread and the 2000s when the internet made nearly everything easier. The truth is that the 11% wage increase is a direct result of increased productivity, and that the missing number in the article is how much the standard of living has increased today vs the 80s, mainly a result of the 11% increase OvER what we should have expected, which was standard inflation. We enjoy a lifestyle now that nearly everyone in the 80s could only dream of. https://www.aei.org/economics/political-economy/living-standards-better-for-americans-years-ago/
  4. Yep, still wouldnt trade 20 years of my life for that. Especially not a CO. I wouldn’t mind firefighting but only cause I’d be able to spend 6 hours a day pushing weight lol
  5. I get it, but one of my best friends from High School is a trooper and while we both make about the same money I wouldn’t trade jobs in a million years. Everyday he goes to work where just about everyone you come into contact with hates you or wants to hurt you. His first week on the job he saved a guy with narcan only for the guy to attack him when he came to because his high was ruined.
  6. I believe you, I just have no issue in the portion of my taxes that go to their salaries and retirement. Outside of the troopers typically theyre underpaid in my opinion.
  7. With the exception of the troopers id say all of those positions are underpaid. I give a lot of credit to people willing to put their lives at risk everyday to make a living. So i'm sure that some of them just want the benefits but for most Id say its more about giving back. I personally know that no one is making it through the trooper academy just to collect a paycheck, its literally two months of hell.
  8. Just to put your mind at ease that it is possible to support Trump and bot be a bigot heres a pic of my garage. Or should I post pictures of Kanye? Or of my friends who i went to highschool with that support trump where i was the minority? Get out of here with that BS.
  9. I completely agree that there is a lot he could say differently, and a politician would do just that. But hes not a career politician. I've been complaining for years about the USPS so you're not going to get much love from me there. I think it should have been allowed to fail and then privatized. USPS is a prime example of why you dont want a single payer health care system IMO.
  10. WOW...angry much? I cant make a clear cut and dry point that Fauci was wrong in calling out trump when hes on video saying there was nothing to worry about in late February without being called a racist?
  11. I'd fire any of my employees should they publicly stab me in the back too. I think Fauci got this one wrong based on crap info coming out of China. I just dont know what more Trump was supposed to do with the info being given to him. Hell he faced backlash over banning flights from China, the whole thing was labeled xenophobic and pro chinese rallys were being thrown in NYC, probably spreading the virus.
  12. If Fauci is a leading expert on the subject and hes quoted as late as February saying we have nothing to worry about who else was Trump supposed to get his information from? His job is to make decisions based on the facts presented to him. Its the experts jobs to give him accurate information.
  13. I'd fire him because on Jan 21st and Feb 29th he was on record that the virus wasn't a threat to the US. You cant go on TV saying we have nothing to worry about on February 29th and then go on CNN in April saying lives would have been saved had they listened to you in February.
  14. That’s right up there with “Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”
  15. Guess what Obama’s approval rating was in April 2012...45% I’d put any any amount of money down that Trump wins this fall.
  16. Ahh crap you’re right. I saw nurses in the headline and was just thinking medical field only. Yea I think that’s overkill. While I’d love $50k for my wife and I were basically just printing money at this point. We won’t need toilet paper, just some nice worn in greenbacks lol.
  17. One of our local healthcare providers actually gave all patient facing hourly staff working with covid patients a $10/hr hazard pay increase, which will work out to more than $25k a year with OT.
  18. The current process gets rid of them because it’s unrealistic for them to run. No one is simply handing them a pile of money to run and be on a level playing field with thousands of other unqualified candidates.
  19. Who gets to run? And what percentage is allocated to each person? not saying the systems perfect, but it’s better than most. If another country was a better place to live than here I’d move there. Every country I’ve ever worked in was falling over themselves to hire educated Americans.
  20. I agree with this, just keep in mind that it would mean only Billionaires would have any success running for national office unless someone successfully crowdsourced their campaign. Bernie has been the best at that and he was woefully under funded. So necessary evil maybe? I don’t approve of the stock buybacks that occurred after the 09 bailouts, but I do see the need for bailing out some industries. For example, there would have been an economic collapse if you weren’t able to pull your money out of a bank or if your homeowners insurer couldn’t cover a claim.
  21. I would put money on oxygen deprivation, not the virus attacking brain cells as the root cause.
  22. Any examples of something that you’d like to see changed that won’t be because of the power 1% yield over govt policy?
  23. Ya I’m more referring to the current situation where you can make $52k a year doing nothing and some of the more extreme socialists ideas out there, like universal income. A lot of those people milking the system for 25k a year plus food coups are also working side hustles, paying no taxes. That said I think in our lifetimes universal income becomes a reality because of advancements in robotics and AI. For example, most freight will become completely automated via self driving vehicles and robots in our lifetime.
