19".  Only lost one inch since Saturday's mushy 2.4".  If it's not frigid I hope to be on the ice a few hundred yards north of there on Saturday, by the small island with a nice old cabin sitting on the rocky center.

19" geez.  Your retention is impressive. Its  funny how some of you  NNE folks are rightfully expressing their displeasure with the below normal snowfall and lack of excitement, yet you're still starting off march with 19" of snow, whereas I am probably only a tad below normal in snowfall season to date, yet my pack is reduced to swiss cheese after this latest rain.  It's just a different world up there in the foothills and mountains and the northern portions of NNE.

    February numbers:
The month began with  nice snowstorm, though not nearly as nice as farther south and west, then featured meh - no brutal cold, no significant storms (closest was the 2" sleetfest on 2/16), no major thaws and only a trace of liquid precip.  Lots of storm activity that was (to quote the Bard) "..full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."  4-5 whiffed storms and the 6 that brought snow totaled 11.8".

Avg temp:  18.4   0.8 AN    2021 is the median temp for Feb, 23 yr POR.
Avg max:  28.8    0.3 BN   Mildest, 44 on 2/24; coldest, 17 on 2/9.  (Very few sub-20 highs this winter, coldest was 14 back in DEC.  Only 01-02 with 16 failed to have a colder daily max.)
    Avg min:   8.0     2.0 AN   Coldest was -15 on 1st and 10th, mildest was 29 on 2/24.

    Precip:  3.15"   0.08" AN   Greatest one--day: 1.32 on the 2nd

    Snow:  21.3"   1.6" BN   Biggest storm, 9.5" on 2/2.
    Avg depth:  16.7"   2.6" BN
Season's snow:  50.8"   16.2"  BN for the date.

What's your current depth? I use your reports to somewhat gage how things are looking at my parents cabin on Flying Pond just a hair south of the Mt.Vernon/Vienna town line at about 400 elevation.

I'm sure this isn't news to you guys locally, but cover was definitely spotty when I was on I-91 and I-90 yesterday. South of about Deerfield Mass coverage went down pretty quickly. Brattleboro VT still had 10" solid eveywhere.

Medians on highways are going to torch first obviously, but long stretches of nothing.

Yes that's pretty accurate and I feel areas just east of here and in lower elevations are even a little bit worse.  The map below confirms as I'm just west of that area.

  4. Pack is taking a hit here.  The open sunny areas and main roads are really showing ground now.  Some more urbanized areas are completely bare. However, the neighborhoods and wooded areas still have solid snow cover but it is down to just a few inches.

  5. Snowfall is below average here by 9-10" if the season ended today. The Grinch and the long stretch of mind-numbing boredom in January, combined with us being  just a bit outside the max zones for most of the February events put the season down around a C- here.  If we somehow nickel and dime our way to normal, or have another solid event that gets us there, I can see it sliding up to a B-.

Initial reports indicate he was not impaired so that would be good news if true.

I have also read that he was running late for a 7:30 a.m. scheduled golf lesson with Drew Brees that was being filmed.  Reports were that he rushed hurriedly out of the hotel just after 7:00 AM, that he was almost 1 hour away from his destination, and that speeding was a factor in the crash.

Outside of CT this winter has been an exercise in frustration.

Yes there has been a certain level of frustration in the lower elevations this far north in CT and  up the valley towards your area  this winter, but I've gotten used to it.   About 38"  here on the season so not terrible per se,  and this storm will likely get me into the 40s, but yet we know there's usually areas all around us getting more due to the topography of the region.

  8. It's hard to imagine more than an advisory level  2-4 /3-5 Inch snowfall for much of the  interior.   Far southern interior / south coastal areas could benefit more from the initial waa thump and eastern /southeastern areas could benefit a little bit more if the follow-up wave trends a little bit closer. Perhaps we could see some low-end warning amounts in some of those areas with S and SW Connecticut seeming like the best chance as of now.

Interesting.  I've leveled off here while you dropped another 1.2 degrees from 29.4 a bit earlier.
