My belief is because it is in the dead center of the state... mountains zap anything coming from the NW, and it is too far inland to have a significant oceanic moisture tap. I live 40 miles south of Cola. so I get the benefit of the ocean tap from the Atlantic (5” from the Coastal Crusher and yet Columbia got hardly flurries).
On a completely unrelated note, I got a question... Why is the max total size I can upload down to just .08MB? I notice it go down every time I post a pic.
the last decent dump Orangeburg got was in February 2009 (8.5 inches, got an inch an hour off that storm). I did get lucky and managed to see a few flurries as this last system cleared out... but it sucks living in this part of the state because we basically need a digging cold front plus a clipper low moving up from the Gulf to have any significant accumulation.
