I was born at the beginning of a six year snow drought in 1949...The periods of 1969-70 to 1976-77 (Eight Years) had no major storms...the best chances changed to rain or were to far south and east of us...biggest storm in this period was 7.8" in Feb. 1975...only eleven 4" storms in that period...from the 1983-84 season to the 1991-92 season ( nine years ) had no major storms...biggest storm in this period was 8.9" in Feb. 1991...it was a bullseye storm...nineteen 4" storm in that period...2013-14 and 2015-16 had six each for comparison...edit...1929-30 to 1931-32 had no storms 4" or more...
I was born 8 months before the late Dec. 1947 storm. Like you, Unc, I’ve seen it all, boom to bust. Delivered mail in a raging blizzard. Nearly got blown of a row house roof trying to clear it after another snow deluge and of course have admired early spring flowers blooming in late January and February. I wonder now, with the changes in the atmosphere, how my experiences will end. As always ....

Rockford, IL may go from an all-time record low Thursday AM, to a daily record high Monday (though rain is expected). Can't make this stuff up, folks.
You can, but no one would believe you. As always......

Funny, I read them as well grounded evaluations of the current situation.
Particularly appreciated is that these are much more sober than those provided by some of the more opinionated/enthusiastic forecasters.
Regarding Mr Sutherland, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I always like to consider the source and in this case if the source is who I think it is from way back.... well enough said. As always

Thank you. Yea, this winter going into February, definitely ranks right up there with 94-95, 97-98, 01-02 and 11-12 for NYC’s worst in the last 25 years

Come on guys, it's been almost an hour since someone made a joke about more salt than snow. Try to take some pride in your work.
A snowflake, a raindrop, and a bag of ice melt went int a bar and and .. no even I can’t do it.

the historic winter of 1887-88 had three rain storms between arctic outbreaks...then came March...
Beautiful Unc. ... I believe the event started as strong rains with relatively mild temperatures, at least until that arctic front caught sight of the L.P., fell in love, sang “MARIA” and the rest is history. As always .......

Yeah well I work in a job where a few days a week some elementary kid throws a fit and tears up a classroom and so they call me to help. I'm supposed to talk the kid down. Doesn't work, and I wind up chasing the kid around the building for hours waiting for his parents to come get him. Which means my actual work doesn't get done. When I retire I do not want to work with kids, I need a break. A nursing home would be ok. Couple days a week.
There has to be a Medal classification for what you go through somewhere. I’ll never complain again. As always

I've been retired from the city since 2006...watching a three year old and two month old is harder at my age than mixing cement when I worked for a construction company at 26...not to mention I have to get up at 6am...
Unc. You speak truth and wisdom. I had to watch the two, 8 and 4 year old, boys alone when the the grand daughter was born last week. After that experience I think if I was young again I would take myself to the Vet to get fixed. Well gently fixed. I just went back to my very far distant younger days and looked up at the street light. It’s probably my eyes but it looks like a lot of that drizzle is very light snow. As always

LOL. Used to know if the wind backed around from a certain direction in front of my house if it would stay snow or flip. Life was simple and I had a detachable radio shack red bike radio that attached to the handle and a little transistor weather radio where an actual meteorologist on KWO35 would update the loop at 11am, 5pm etc and I would anxiously listen to the same damn loop sometimes for a half hour until they updated
I remember using WE6-1212. In those day you asked permission to use the phone. Naturally I waited till the coast was clear. Justice was eventually served when the bill came. As always...

Wow. Now that’s frightening. At least the row houses are tilted towards the isolated back space and unless it’s you going over with the snow it’s generally harmless.
