  1. Ah, Ok, I had a very nice rock maple that was a 12 yr old tree that I had lost, The 2 years before it died the leaves were real small which I found odd, Then the next year the top of the trees had died but the rest of the tree had small leaves, Then the last year, it started to leaf out and stopped and that was it, Come to find out my neighbor had rototilled for a garden and severed one of the main roots to my tree.....
  2. I have a red maple here but its not a vibrant color in the fall, My neighbor has some rock maples and those have some vibrant color to them.
  3. Thanks, Both trees were planted at the same time 30+ yrs ago, The one on the left got hit by lightning and for 10 yrs or so, Only half the tree had leaves and the other half didn't, The bark was split wide open the full length of the tree facing the street, But it has finally healed back over and has just started to thrive so it was set back a few years compared to the one near the driveway, I know one thing, Over the last 5+yrs or so, Its been quite the PITA trying to keep those lower branches trimmed so they were not hitting the tops of vehicles pulling into the driveway. I was about as far as i could go with trimming them with a pole saw standing in the back of my PU, The main problem was the further up into the canopy i was getting i could only cut off half the branch so there was a lot of dead branches still attached to the trunk that I'm sure was not contributing to the health of both trees, They came in and cut them off flush to the trunks plus removed the next two rows that were hanging back down into the driveway, Should be good for another 5yrs or so now hopefully.
  4. We roasted them around the holidays, Its too bad we lost that species, In other news, I had a buddy of mine who is an arborist come give my pin oaks a good trimming last week, That should keep the branches off the vehicles for a few years...............
  5. Cracking open the outer spiny shell to actually get at the chestnut was quite a challenge..............
  6. I remember Chestnuts were still around back in the 60's up here
  7. Its peak pollen season here, Pea soup.
  8. Terrible, I'm a Mosquito farm, May have to make a dragonfly purchase, Or build some bat houses.
  9. Very few "congrats" over the last 6 mos for you.
  10. 1.87", First time all Winter/Spring i have equaled Tom in an event up here.
  11. Agree, Even a few days away the garden needs some tending too, Mine are already between 12-24" tall and will need the support, I have a different anchoring system though as their in containers and will tether them off the trellis.
  12. 1-2" qpf i don't need, Its been very wet so far this month, But those gusty winds on Saturday, Going to stake off the Tomato plants to keep them upright.
  13. Looks like i may need to get into the garden and tie off some plants after this rain................ A storm system will move into the area today and linger into Friday. A widespread rainfall is expected. The heaviest rainfall amounts look like they will come in two batches, one this afternoon and another overnight. Total rainfall amounts are expected to be between one and two inches. This may be enough to cause some localized flooding in areas prone to poor drainage. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday. Northwest winds will increase behind a departing storm system on Saturday. Gusts in the 35 to 40 mph range are possible.
  14. I mean you figure 12 mos makes up a year and there was accumulated snow on the ground for 7 of them, And longer with retention, That in itself is pretty impressive.
  15. Not as fortunate here as over your way, We had a lot of glop storms and the retention was not very good, But if i went 20 miles NW it was phenomenal so we traveled to ride most of this winter, It would be hard for me here to go above a C+ maybe a B- grade, I heavily weigh in pack retention but that's just me when i'm grading a winter.
  16. That is impressive and I Don”t know how you could possibly not give it an A, I know your area sits in a great spot for continuous snows and retention but this past season sounds like it’s one that is out of the norm.
  17. Nice job Jay, January does stand out but that is a solid 5 mos of snow and 7 overall with the bookends of Oct and April.
  18. That would create a lot of damage for some of those areas.
  19. They're different ones out there as well as these but they all basically do the same.
  20. There is a roller kit out there you can buy to mount on the front of the mowing deck of a tractor or the back of a self propelled mower.
