I skied in -30 at Stowe in 2018.  The wind so bad we could not ski at the summit, so we had to stay on the resort side and ski there only all weekend.  It was bad.  I had a charity ski race to be in otherwise I would have stayed home.  I wore my snowmobile gear and that mostly worked.  

Snowmobiling at twin mountain in I think it was 94. Came back late from the bar and decided not to put the sleds on the trailer. Plugged in the block heater on the truck and went to bed. Next day you couldn't turn over the snowmobiles or the truck. Figured we could just muscle the sleds onto the trailer. My brother drops the front ski on his privates between the rail and the bed. Not pretty...

Skied at cannon mountain similar conditions. Lift attendance wouldn't allow anyone with exposed skin to get on. Only time I've ever had frostbite.

The back-to-back part fours when you come back over the road are a b****. Sure you can carry the stream pretty easily but a slight miss hit and you're in it.

Got something that only you and I would care about. Dropped a big locust on a conifer last week. I had never really taken note of it before so I took a picture and googled it. Port orford cedar! Only grow in southern Oregon. They grow to be 200 ft tall. Must have been a raging pac-jet  70 years ago

I get that everyone is looking for something to cheer for. We’re all on the same team there. But it gets exhausting to have posts that provide a glimmer of hope with the caveat “of course, no guarantees”, “cutters can happen in any pattern”, etc.

Who TF doesn’t know that? Especially this winter?

What’s worse by an order of magnitude however is pattern discussion that glosses over the fact that things have constantly been delayed and/or failed to produce even the bare minimum of wintry conditions and the new hopeful period requires another shot of positivity that essentially says this time it’ll be different. “Eventually persistence will fail”.

Who TF doesn’t know that, either? The question is when.

It’s all emotional here. There isn’t a single person here going at this without emotional defense or coping mechanisms. Just embrace it. 

We give latitude to lie to ourselves in winter that we never would in any other season.
