  1. Absolutely, and I should also add that skiing is not something you can learn just by reading about it. It might help a little to learn some tips, but ultimately you have to actually do it to really learn.
  2. I'd say the best way is to book an adult beginner lesson at Liberty. They'll start you with the basics and the easier slopes. Then after a few lessons you should be able to handle the green runs.
  3. I think 2009-10 was the best, since getting 3 storms that were 18”+ is practically unheard of anywhere in the country outside the mountains or LES snow belts. But 2013-14 gives it a run for its money IMO, especially in the colder suburbs. I’ve never seen a wall to wall winter like that one either before or since. It snowed just about every week, and dare I say I liked it even slightly better than 2002-03.
  4. I think that was December 30, 2000. I don’t remember that one very well either, but I was told it was supposed to be a big one, something like 8-12”. And then it was not even a single flake. Same winter as March 2001, so a lot of heartbreak that year.
  5. That is devastating. You probably felt a bit like John Bolaris that day. I think I had just a vague enough memory to realize throughout middle and high school that you should never ditch your homework just because you think you’ll get a snow day.
  6. I learned it in high school with some friends. They pushed me to do the blues the second time I ever skied, because they told me this is what you need to do if you want to learn it quickly. I fell every 2 seconds but I got through it. I don’t recommend any beginners to try learning that way, but we were 16 and didn’t know any better. And yeah if you stop for some time then it will come back to you. For me it was almost 7 years, but after a few green runs at Liberty I got right back into it and never looked back.
  7. I’m a cautious skier. I’m comfortable with the blues, I don’t go as fast as some others, and I’m perfectly fine that way.
  8. Yeah I’ve heard. Sounds revolting to me. I’m assuming you were in SW VA back then. How long did it take for it to all fall apart and become nothing?
  9. I just missed the boat on March 2001, and wasn’t really following weather back then. Thank God for that, I would’ve been heartbroken and probably in tears. For me December 2010 was the most painful bust/screwjob ever.
  10. You should’ve told me you were up there. I just returned today after skiing Timberline yesterday, and yeah conditions were great like you said. I also met some really cool people during my brief trip.
  11. A very tragic story in Pakistan of people trying to visit a small mountain town just north of Islamabad during a big snowstorm, and then getting stranded and killed by carbon monoxide poisoning in their cars.
  12. It was right around 5” back home. Better than I expected, especially with that spectacular early morning band. The GFS really nailed it.
  13. This is definitely one of the better ones.
  14. The snow is still coming down here in Thomas WV, this time it is upslope. 10.5" and counting.
  15. It’s still snowing here in Thomas WV despite the radar. Upslope is a wonderful thing. Up to 9” now.
  16. Based on the way it looks on that radar I didn’t even have to go all the way to the mountains Absolutely breathtaking. It’s going to be a fun drive back home on Saturday.
  17. Wow what a breathtaking band on that radar. Amazing.
  18. Incredible. Makes me even more thrilled about Timberline tomorrow. Definitely helps that the station is at 3700'. Here in Thomas it's around 6.7". Hoping to crack double digits by the time it's done.
  19. How much do they have so far? The radar says they're getting demolished.
  20. Yeah it would have been difficult. My main goal was to arrive before it was dark, and I had just made it. Most of the drive was fine, and it was basically white rain in Cumberland and Keyser, but then it got treacherous above 2000 ft, especially around route 48. Thankfully my snow tires made it easy for me.
  21. Right around 5:30pm when I measured 1.5" So that makes it 4.5" in the last 3 hours, and it was really coming down a few hours ago. Great storm.
  22. Pretty good storm in Thomas, WV. 6" so far, temp 25 degrees.
  23. I'm also going to check out Timberline... never skied there before but with their improvements it should be a fun experience. Although not everything is open, I think conditions should be great after tonight.
  24. I've decided to go to Thomas, WV. It is near Davis and it should be a great spot for this storm.
