tmagan
Total number of snowstorms in Minneapolis and Chicago history totaling 19.8" or more: 5. Total number of snowstorms in New York City totaling 19.8" or more since 1996: 5. Of course sitting next to the second largest ocean and a natural baroclinic zone do help. Stormlover74
I spent one winter in Chicago and it happened to be 98-99 so I got to be there during the big New years storm. Was interesting in just how different a storm like that is compared to on the east coast. The snow never seemed to come down that heavy and there was no wind but we got to 20". i also was lucky enough to be in State college during the insane 93-94 winter where we had 110" including the March storm with 30". That was the most snow I ever saw on the ground at one time as we had a snowpack when that storm arrived and had 3 feet on the ground when all was said and done. in the last 25 years, chicago has only had 2 storms of 14" or more.
