  2. 21.6 inches Jan 1-3, 1999
  3. 19.2 inches Mar 25-26, 1930
  4. 18.8 inches Jan 13-14, 1979
  5. 16.2 inches Mar 7-8, 1931
  6. 15.0 inches Dec 17-20, 1929
  7. 14.9 inches Jan 30, 1939
  8. 14.9 inches Jan 6-7, 1918
  9. 14.3 inches Mar 25-26, 1970
  10. 14.0 inches Jan 18-20, 1886

just in the last 10 years, 7 of the storms IMBY would be on the chicago all-time top 10 list.

I spent one winter in Chicago and it happened to be 98-99 so I got to be there during the big New years storm. Was interesting in just how different a storm like that is compared to on the east coast. The snow never seemed to come down that heavy and there was no wind but we got to 20". i also was lucky enough to be in State college during the insane 93-94 winter where we had 110" including the March storm with 30". That was the most snow I ever saw on the ground at one time as we had a snowpack when that storm arrived and had 3 feet on the ground when all was said and done.

in the last 25 years, chicago has only had 2 storms of 14" or more.
