Time to fire up a new thread for the New Year. Thanks for all the views in 2022. And as usual will be deleting 2022 as I go along to make room for the new images. Actually, I already have been deleting 2022 to make room.

First sunset of the new year that I could get to and was not a stratus fest

Starting off with the yellow. Taken with the 100mm...

The red starting to roll into the area. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm...

More of a wide angle view of the red. Taken with the 24-70mm at 47mm...

Last week I got myself a late B-Day/X-mas present for myself. A new camera. I upgraded to one of the mirrorless Canon R5. I doubled my resolution by going from a 22Megapixel sensor to a 45Megapicxel sensor. The camera works great. The software to deal with the new CR3 files is giving me fits though. I must have a computer issue here that is causing all kinds of hang ups. Anywho, got to try out the neww hardware on a sunset here finally tonight. The stratus finally broke right around sunset.

Some crepuscular rays as trhe holes started opening up. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm...

Finally a spot of blue sky! It has been weeks it seems. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm...

Had a little bit of deep orange. Going to have to wait a bit longer to try out the red response. Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm...

Today as all about the streaky cirrus in the afternoon. Cold as snot outside so these are from the front yard.

Looking southwest. Taken with the 16-35mm at 17mm...

Today was all about the cirrus. Both images were taken from my yard so the trees and wires are part of the package.

From the morning sunrise looking east. Taken with the 24-70mm at 41mm...

Mid-afternoon and a 22 degree halo around the Sun with a contrail and slight contrail shadow for some extra spice. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm...

Nice sunset this evening.

Looking southwest pre-sunset. Taken with the 24-70mm at 33mm...

8G3A1020.thumb.JPG.c64c1c1c277152bf50f1f77ef25bf4f3.JPG

Looking southeast as the bottom of the clouds was being illuminated with light. Taken with the 24-70mm at 28mm...

8G3A1076.thumb.JPG.e14c2f532b380ed5da5c1e9e0351669f.JPG

The sunset looking southwest again. The new camera is doing better with the high contrast images. Taken with the 24-70mm at 61mm...

8G3A1147.thumb.JPG.261ddb2f87610ce4999cb772ac53dabd.JPG

And while the red was way far to the west, the reason I am adding this is the foreground detail. The amount of detail is the dark areas is tons better with the new camera. But having twice the resolution of the old camera has a lot to do with it. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm...

Got to try a sunrise with the new camera. A system was just over-running the area and I thought it might have some color with it even if it was a bit frosty outside.

The camera handled the various and minute colors well as the color just started on the horizon. Taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm...

The over-the-top oranges and yellows were captured well with just a bit of blow-out. Taken with the 24-70mm at 47mm...

Plenty of cirrus around this afternoon and early evening.

Started off with a sundog in an old contrail getting ripped to shreds in the winds aloft. Taken with the 24-70mm at 39mm...

I had hoped that would get some great color post sunset, but those dreams were squashed. The best I could do was pre-sunset. Taken with the 24-70mm at 31mm...

A first for the year. I was able to get home and grab the camera, and image the post sunset color after work. Only had time to get to the municipal lot. Did not have enough time to make it all the way to the overpass though. So the trees, wires and lights had to be included.

Taken with the 24-70mm at 59mm...

A bit behind in processing again. These are from 3-7.

Some weak iridescence at the top of this image. Taken with the 24-70mm at 50mm...

The edge of the alto-cumulus looks so cool to me. Almost like it was one of those sheets of perforated paper that you rip off. The cloud shadow even increases the effect. There is a decaying sundog on the right edge but I was focusing on the alto-cumulus. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm...

The sunset tonight had plenty of clouds. But the majority of them were cirrus at varying heights. So it made it a very subtle sunset. Only going to share one image. I do not know if you will be able to see the *splotchiness* in the reduced resolution version but I as really pleased at how well the new camera was able to hold all the various contrasts.

I am a bit behind again. These are from 3-17.  A nice but chilly departing system sunset.

Starting out looking east when I got out to the overpass. Taken with the 24-70mm at 24mm...

A look west pre-sunset. Found a feature on this camera that lets me electronically to adjust to a 1.6x crop sensor a give a little more reach to a lens. Of course the resolution goes from 8000x5000 to 5000x3000 (approx.) but when you are dumbing them down to 1024x683 anyway, I doubt you can tell the difference. Makes it nice that I do not have to change lens if it is cold out or the conditions are not ummmmmmmmmmmm nice. So this image is taken with the 24-70mm at 70mm but it effectively looks like 112mm.
