Ontario Environment Commissioner sounds the alarm

Recommended Posts

Just saw this on the 6pm local. He held a news conference saying we've run out of time. The climate has changed and we MUST act now to protect ourselves.

I think he pushed this button.

He sat in horror at the podium with microphones all around him because there have been, get this, tornadoes in America during WINTER! According to him, this was the signal they were waiting for. And the time has come. He says they are coming this way and we must make plans now to deal with the storms. He says the government is not prepared to deal with the weather catastrophes that are coming, which will inflict some $6 billion a year in damage.

The Ontario government's new climate advertising campaign.

According to him we will no longer have winter, thus the winter tourist industry will collapse. Northern communities will be cut off because they can't build ice roads. Ice storms will happen every other Tuesday. And species like insects and polar bears will go extinct. The most horrifying effect, though, is that our $5 bill shows children playing hockey on it. Hockey will go extinct, too.

I can hear [the hypothetical] warning sirens [we don't have] blaring across the province right now.

He says the entire Ontario infrastructure is about to fail because it's build on a climate we no longer have. All the hydro towers will fall, the bridges are ill-equipped, and houses at going to be heavily damaged by the coming storms. I didn't hear any mention of building a public emergency warning system, though. Anyway, winter is gone he warns. Our society is about to fall into chaos. We've all become too accustomed to the climate we no longer have, and we will not adapt well to the change that has already taken place.

Google News has about 60 new articles from across Canada on this news conference. By tomorrow every media outlet in Canada will be reporting this.

1. wrong subforum.

2. there is a link between extreme weather and climate change, per the peer-reviewed literature.

3. this a 100% troll thread as it misrepresents the actual news stories and so just should be deleted.

The articles probably don't sound impressive, but what he said about the tornado outbreak last week in the US is true. He obviously doesn't know tornadoes happen year round in the US. Not all your countries outbreaks make our news here. It was as if the outbreak was a sign that extreme weather is on our doorstep because of this "winterless" year. Even down to the hockey is what he said. Minus the extinction part. He held a $5 bill showing the camera the children playing hockey on it and basically said we will no longer be able to make outdoor rinks. As if the $5 was a symbol of how the climate has changed.

But you're right this is a bit of a troll for me. It's because there is what he said on tv, then there is how everyone heard it. It was still an extremist conference, though. Canadians don't take well to these claims and predictions. Our media and politicians talk and fear climate change almost daily. No matter what you've heard about Canada withdrawing from Kyoto. It's just to implement a different system.

This winter has especially been a climate change frenzy. Our news has been dominated by political claim about how winter has eroded away and is not coming back. This article is just another penny in the jar that I decided to interpret a little differently.

It was only a couple of weeks ago in another thread there was a small debate about the public/political reaction to climate change is out of hand in Canada. This was after multiple agencies were claiming this warm winter is an indication that climate change has occurred. As if we've never had a warm winter before.
