  1. Here is the snow pile yesterday shortly after things changed over to rain. I mentioned in October that the critters here have been going to town eating this fall - the squirrels in particular are looking pretty husky. Apparently the Squirrel Weather Network has the goods...not sure if the call was for an early snow or a long winter. Hopefully both B).

1.7" was the official total down here in Baltimore (city)! County got like 5 inches. (Which is the most we've had in November since like 1989, lol) And the last time we even had measurable Nov. snow was 1995! You?

Nice - 1989 was 4" of dry powder on Thanksgiving Eve here but after mid December that winter was pretty meh. This year feels different so we'll see. Yesterday we got 4.6" and it took a serious beating from over an inch of rain last night but we still have 2 or 3" on the ground in most spots, along with a boatload of leaves. Quite the storm especially for November!

Very true...and I didn't mean to mock them or sound condescending (I apologize if it came off that way). Of course, I hope they're both wrong for snow's sake (not to rub it in)...and that's probably why it may have sounded that way! (I'll be a little depressed if we end up with a mixy winter...but I hope the NAO can save that from happening!)

It occurred to me that I may have misread the tone of your post, so it's cool that you replied. And we're all for maximum snow, except for maybe Voyager, but he has to drive large heavy trucks in it so we give him a pass. Here's hoping! How did you do yesterday?

Agree the snow was quite powdery and easy to shovel at first, if u got to it early before the sleet fest. But we didn’t get much freezing rain just freezing drizzle. And now the backedge is moving through we picked up another 1.5 so I’m going with 8.5 total snow. I’ll take it for November

Yeah I did some shovelling right before it changed to rain here and was reminded how dense and heavy sleet is, lol.

I remember watching that game.  At some point, you couldn't even see the lines on the field.  The sports pundits were ecstatic because they felt it represented "real" football!

Crazy (and fun) to play in no doubt. We had to take a family member to the airport for a 5 pm flight - took 2 hours to get there, fortunately the back roads weren't jammed up.

Have now transitioned to all snow - although it's relatively light.  Temp still @ 33.

But in other news - just saw this... LOL A camel walking along 309 near Souderton during the storm yesterday!

Apparently it was on its way to an event at the Kimmel Center (but it was eventually decided to not have him appear) -

    That's hilarious .

So it sounds like both you and @Ralph Wiggum's forecasts will either live by the NAO or die by it...lol I'm REALLY gonna be watching it now! And of course...it would only take one storm during even a passing neg NAO to also work out better for the corridor, right? (And of course, if it finally breaks it's recent pattern become a more dominant feature...even better, right? (aren't weeklies hinting at least going into December as negative? Of course, too early to say if it stays there, I guess)

I give them credit for making the effort to do the research and put the thought into it that they do, and I appreciate it. Kind of early to say how the winter will turn out. I'm sure they like snow and a good storm as much as you and I and many others who post here. I like the way things look, but the weather can sure humble you if you get cocky.

All i know is pennDOT dropped the ball on this one, an epic fail. On my way to work at 1:30pm i didnt see one salt or plow truck on 22...309...tractor trailers jackknifed cars in ditches and that was only a few inches then. On my way home just now all i see is cars in ditches and tractor trailers jackknifed on the side of the highways all over. The highway has this hard packed on snow/ice. Good storm tho, but the road crews were def not prepared for this one.

That might be a little harsh, imo. More of a group responsibility - there are probably people out there who shouldn't drive in snow, which doesn't help. The snow came down hard and with the latent ground heat melting the bottom layer with all that compression on top, you get effectively a sheet of ice. December 8th 2013 was a lot like this storm - 1st snow of the season, came down hard, forecast was underdone, and people in general were unprepared. With all the cars on the road and gridlocked it's hard for plows and salt trucks to make a difference. If you read people like HM on Twitter you might have been aware of the potential for heavy snow in the mid day to afternoon, but even with that, it's just potential, it's the weather. So I can imagine PennDOT might have been under prepared, but so were many others, and even then I'm not sure how you overcome 2" an hour rates with roads packed with traffic in the middle of the day. Glad you made it home okay!

Forgot to take our gazebo tarp down; oops! Supports are a bit bent; maybe we'll be able to straighten them out?

Lol, happened to us with one of those 8'x10' tents a couple of years ago, we went away for a couple of days and had a surprise 2" tstorm while we were gone, came home to find it collapsed. Pretty much unsalvageable.
