We actually have had a handful of perfectly timed snowstorms over the past few decades.
Dec 24/25, 2002: 6.8"
Dec 24/25. 2003: 3.3"
Dec 22/23, 2004: 8.5"
Dec 24/25, 2017: 5.5"

That 2004 storm was a monster down here. 27" imby. Most I've ever seen. ..

If sig snow that early is rare air up here, what is it in the deep South?? Are we talking 80F one day, and snow OTG the next?

Wow, never knew that. Here in The Mitt, the jack-o-lanterns had just gone dim when that freakish storm dumped 8-12" Nov2-3 of '66. Went on to be a yuuge winter for SMI.
I'm old and I remember that storm! I was in the 10th grade and was on the school bus the day before and on the radio they forecast light rain, possibly ending as flurries! We got 8-12" down here near Cincy too!

Not really anything to track around my neck of the woods for the next 1-2 weeks. Just going to watch the lakes freeze and the drought expand.

It looks like there's going to be a reservoir of cool/cold air around, so it's really going to come down to the details on system evolution as to whether something can come from it.
There have been a number of out of season snows in the past several years (both early and late). Certainly would be foolish to discount the possibility.
18zGfs says, what snow?
