Today is the 15 year anniversary of the 2004 pre Christmas winter storm. Won't ever forget those 2 days.
Record storm for me. A two parter that dumped 26" on me with no ice. Incredibly, it was gone in a week!

still a rainer with no real cold air to tap into
GFS has Chicago with 2" of backside snow. A step in the right direction for you.

Actually, it probably has nailed it. When it cuts that much it very rarely comes back down...

3.5" for me, now turned to light Frz rn. At least I've got 7" for the season now even if short lived both times..

Picked up a quick 2" down here in Jennings County. Light-moderate snow now. Might get 1 more inch. .

Yeah....current prediction is 4-6 inches along I-70 corridor by Tuesday morning. Freezing rain risk currently thought of as being farther south to the Ohio Valley. Hope forecast is right.
I'd rather have just rain than freezing rain...

I know I'm in the minority here but I can live with this trend. If I can get 3" that would give me 7" for the year with January being our snowiest month down here still to come..

How far south?

Could it be....climo?
Of course, but it's not like we don't get snow in December! I remember several big snows. This week in 1989 we got 7" ... In the infamous winter of 77-78 we had near 60" , so I can hope.

Clearly the NAM has picked up the torch for us Mitt Peeps. GFS carried it so long it just got tired.
Now I'm back to all rain. The Euro is my only hope...

I mean it isnt even Christmas yet and you are Southern Indiana. Evansville only averages 12.1" and Cincinnati is around 16" I believe. Climo is pretty against you getting snow of significance in general let alone this year.
Yeah, I know. I guess the 3-4" we got in the November storm got my hopes up..

Phasing is not required to get lots of heavy precip. Wind, maybe, but it could still be a hellacious storm if enough cold air is available..
