  1. Looking back at the past year, one of my favorite chase days of 2019 was May 28th in New Jersey. My chase partner Michael Koch and I were positioning ourselves for a tornado warned cell to our west that already put down a tornado in Pennsylvania when the storm right in front of us decided to drop a tornado as well. We heard the storm start to make a distinct sound and we knew a tornado was on the ground as power flashes began across Lake Hopatcong. We followed the storm as tornado warnings continued all the way to New York City and got to see lighting strike after strike over the skyline.6a9efa7ef56f1ba9fe4dc502f7c245bb.jpgac547195c1cb502c491204ddd9c51939.jpge0c9f9c13c5728c373e748a8302480e0.jpg

  2. Sunset was a few minutes ago, here in Staten Island, but the sky appears noticeably darker than usual.  Radar looks like it's on our doorstep (to both the north and west) and heading this way within the next 10 - 15 minutes...
Took this from work in Staten Island 20 min or so ago. 1af61f65d005054e02aa6e68d420fc05.jpg

  3. Don't need one. It won't last more than 10-12 minutes. It didn't here.
The duration of a snow squall doesn't dictate if a warning is needed. Reduced visibility even for 5 minutes could be an issue.

  4. He thinks that because im pointing out that we should be discussing ice, that i am not only rooting for that outcome, but that ice accrection on the roads will somehow burst my pipes inside my house lol.
I deal with these idiots all the time when I chase storms. Weather fascinates most of us here. I love hurricanes and tornadoes. That doesn't mean we root for them.

  5. Agreed. It seemed like after November last year, both NJ State Government and NYC municipal government couldn't admit their own shortcomings, but instead blamed everyone else. Just textbook poor leadership. And I say this after the previous administrations (equal opportunity!) also goofed up and blamed forecasters in the past.
If you're going to blame some one the only thing that can be blamed is the under forecasting by the models. Nothing that morning really indicated it would over perform. Why would they send plows out when the forecast called for 1 inch of snow? If commuters woke up and saw the forecast called for 3 to 6 half of them that drove wouldn't have. By the time the city wanted to deploy the plows and additional salt trucks traffic was already building. So now people complain when they don't have snow removal equipment out and also complain when they do. Which is it? Some people on here just like to hear themself complain.
