Bicycled up the Parkway a couple of hours ago and was getting graupel in the Craven and Ox Creek gap area. Nothing but some sprinkles down in the valley, still 44 F IMBY.

Coming down nicely here as well, guessing between 1 and 2 inches, beautiful out there, I was half expecting to see nothing when I looked out this morning, lol, glad that was not the case.

Thinking about the same IMBY in the valley which is lee in every direction the wind blows ; typically accumulations are lower here but 2 to 3 is better than the barely a dusting which seems to be the norm these days. Although when it comes to ice I love getting next to nothing; took a hike on the mountains-to-sea trail a few days ago and hiked back on the closed Parkway; photo shows all the residual ice

Wishing you the best of luck holding onto the power. I know I am still suffering a bit of PTSD from Helene; and to borrow a term from the movie Spinal Tap; it seems we keep having weather events with something turned up to 11; of course Helene blew up the amp. Very thankful for the powder snow forecast but winds and cold to be cranked up to 11 for this one to follow-up the ice, cold, and wind from last week. Hope everyone stays safe and warm.

It used to snow in Raleigh every winter but that is closing in on a half century and before in the past. Getting moisture and cold air for snow is becoming a near impossibility nowadays.

You're not alone with those thoughts. I had the full experience of the blizzard of 93 when I was renting, lol; hiked to friends house right up the middle of Merrimon Ave in Asheville wearing a motorcycle helmet. Now an older and wiser home owner, I don't need to see anything like that again. Let the trees stay upright, keep power on, and have about 4 or 5" of snow to go for a nice walk and I am happy

Freezing rain in the mountains is a very localized thing the models can't handle. No doubt the strength of the CAD brought a bigger threat to higher terrain than usual. Still surprised you had as much as as you did. Had very little which is consistent with what I have experienced with freezing here the past couple of decades.

I don't get much more snow than the foothills crew here in the tail end of the Swannanoa Valley but CAD is weaker and Buncombe Snow hole helped with the ice. Rain has picked up here, sending sleet wishes or anything besides ZR wishes down the mountain.

Very light freezing drizzle here, temp has climbed to almost 27 F from a low of 24 F.

30 F IMBY in Asheville, a few sleet pellets earlier but nothing since. -
There were some things about the forecast and models that don't make sense to me. Reluctant to say anything other than we will see how it turns out.
