  1. Messy morning in Bretton Woods. Very gusty winds starting yesterday. Light snow started 10pm last night. No big accumulations here. Word is North Conway area got hit hard. It was a sleety mix for a while this morning but now mostly snow again. Winds still very gusty

  2. We've had some good overnight temps for snow making. Bretton Woods is celebrating 50 years this weekend. We had about 1-2inches of snow this past overnight Sunday into Monday morning. Not a bad November so far to get ski season started. I remember Alex posting November 2018 before I lived up here. Skiing glades in November. Clearly that is an outlier and not average. I moved up here Nov 2019 and this November has been the most favorable for getting things started in November since I moved up here.

    First synoptic storm with accumulating snow coming tomorrow.

    All I knew was they were on pace with their timeline of having the new lift operational before the Xmas-New Years holiday week.

    Looks like the towers were flown in today.

    I don’t know the status of the terminals but usually those take the longest to build.  Things like the towers, while big, get put in fast due to the cost of the helo.

    String the haul rope, then test it, carriers go on quickly as long as they are on site, etc.

    Thanks, there really has been no progress on the terminal at the base area. Just recently they poured concrete. Not much activity at the base area. Still big piles of dirt and rocks. Glad they are still on track for a successful timeline and opening of the new lift. I did see snow making at the base when I drove by the other day.

  4. I'd like to break the pattern of having tropical rain storms around Xmas-New Years.

    We have had some brutal ones up here that literally wipe out the snowbase. Man-made Snow needs to start all over again and snow mobiling and xcountry  skiing shuts down until natural snow build back up. The ice castles have struggled the last 4 years up here.

  5. I have no idea what Attitash has planned. They closed at the end of the ski season and did not open for summer so they could replace one of their chair lifts. They usually open in December and that is less than a month away and there has been barely any progress on the new lift. I wonder if they are staying closed this winter?

    @powderfreakhave you heard anything?

  6. How long does it take to assemble a new chairlift terminal, run a cable and hang chairs, and then pass a load test? Attitash is running out of time. Five weeks until they would normally open? They only jist started pouring the concrete footings.

    People are using AC? Even you Diane?

    Holy shit.

    Only my bedroom. I have a small one bedroom house and the last owner converted the attic space into a bedroom. It gets ridiculously hot since there is no good ventilation and all the heat from the house rises into the upper space. I haven't used it in the main part of the house.

  8. Turned my AC on last night in my bedroom, but not in the main house. This time of year up here is when we alternate between heat and AC. It doesn't happen every year but there is a pattern of warm surges in Oct. I usually set my heat at 62-65 depending on if it's going to cool and cloudy or if it's just chilly at night but then sunny during the day which helps keep the temp up in the house up. Looks like AC season ends today and then we jump into heating season.

  9. 2 days of clouds, but today is gorgeous and full sunshine. The foliage just jumped into high gear. It started slowly turning with the first hints about a month ago. Over the past month the green has been fading out and some of the Maples have popped but nothing to write home about. Over the last 3 days everything has dramatically sped up and the color change when I woke up these last few mornings has been dramatically obvious. I can see it being peak color here heading into next weekend. The weather is going to be above normal and dry so it will be great for leaf peeping. Should still have some sort of color left up here by Columbus Day Weekend but it will be past peak by then. Usually the first frost drives the foliage into high gear. We didn't really have one at ground level, but Alex said he saw frost on the roof of one of his properties, so it did get frosty at foliage level. Full-speed ahead!!!

  10. Ragged Mtn now in some hot water regarding misuse of EB5 investments. Major bummer- Ragged is a great little mountain, but they may have taken EB5 money and used it inappropriately. Same company that owns Ragged also now owns Jay Peak. This could make things interesting for the recovery of Jay Peak is the new owners are also guilty of misusing EB5 funds.

  11. Alex and I just had a brief chat. The leaves are starting to change. The green color is changing and fading. It's not one uniform landscape of green anymore. The usual maples are starting to show splashes of red, at the tops and the random weak branches. There are bits of yellow starting to show as well. And we didn't even get through one full page on the Warm Season NNE Thread
