This is gonna make Katrina look like little league I fear.  This is a complete monstrosity…and strengthening as it’s making landfall as quite possibly the strongest ever on top of it.  Holy smokes what a storm.

Katrina was also *BAD* for reasons well outside of just the “hurricane being intense.”

Katrina will always been in a league of its own. I suppose it’s conceivable that some day it gets beat, as all records are meant to be broken, but don’t think this is the angle of approach to do it for NOLA. LIKEWISE, some of these smaller towns east of the eye could be wiped off the map… sadly.

    Cat 4 then right?

    Yep.

...MAJOR HURRICANE IDA CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN...
...NOW A DANGEROUS CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE...

Data from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft and NOAA
Doppler weather radars indicate that Hurricane Ida has continued to
rapidly intensify this Sunday morning. Maximum sustained winds are
now estimated to be 130 mph (215 km/h). This makes Ida a category 4
hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.

Ida's central pressure has fallen 6 millibars during the past hour.

I’ll guess 120 for S&G’s.. but maybe 115 could be realistic (knots)

115kt seems reasonable. I'll say we get cat 4 winds either this pass, or the next NE quad pass.. Been going off for awhile.

Nhc dropped the ball on the recon flights. Extremely important data being lost out on.

Actually they likely organized an impromptu emergency recon flight (when one was really, already, supposed to be happening but wasn't due to mechanical issues)...
