Yes. How is everything going over there in Ottawa?

I'm actually in Toronto (despite my screen name!). Have friends in Ottawa still, though. Things are tense there. Things are especially tense at the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit and Windsor. It wouldn't surprise me if some sort of action is taken within the next day or so to clear those protesters. Pressure being put on government by the US government now as supply chains have ground to a halt. Really hoping there isn't any violence or bloodshed. Crazy times we have been living through these past two years.

Had a good friend pass out at a wedding 3 yrs ago. We were eating dessert with him at 8 pm, and at 9 pm he fell to the ground. 27 yrs old and never woke up, no one knows what happened but they think it had to be a brain aneurysm. There were 2 doctors and a bunch of nurses at the wedding but couldn't bring him back. Ever since that night my view on life changed. We're here for a few fleeting seconds, don't stress over the small things, enjoy everyday to the full, and spend as much time as possible with family and friends.

I'm so sorry to hear that you went through that. May your friend rest in peace.

With over 6 inches of snow depth coming up to nearly 4 weeks in GTA I’m nearly over winter

Ideally one more storm/cold outbreak but I’d love for 50s to start asap. I love Morchs haha

4 weeks of winter is nothing. lol If you look at some of (but not all) of the winters between approximately 1955 and 1985, winter would start early November and last through until early April.

On a sidenote, it's interesting how some of the warmest winters on record are still from 90 years ago. For example, downtown Toronto's warmest Januarys are 1) 1932 and 2) 1931, with records going back to 1840. Even January 1913 was warmer than most of the Januarys of the past 30 years...and this followed one of the coldest Januarys on record (1912).

Here's a look at last months rankings, and anomaly chart for our region. Been a few years since we had a really chilly Jan. The last time was 2014, although 2019 had its moments. A state record low for Illinois, if I remember correctly, at the end of the month. As cooler as we were, our neighbors just west of us in the plains had milder conditions, especially the afternoon highs. Easy to see where the jet liked to set up.

This time around, because of the mostly below normal conditions for the north central US, I switched to ranking from the cold side. 2021 was so warm, always had to rank from the warm end, with a few exceptions.

Odd to see January 1858 standing out as being so warm. I imagine that must have been a real anomaly back then, although in a book I have, called Early American Winters, by David Ludlum, the late 1820s apparently saw a string of mild winters.

3.5" officially at YYZ but on pavement it looks more like 1-2" of cement coated with powder.

Let's see if we can weasel our way past the 40" mark for the season this p.m.

Yes, latest guidance has wave 2 coming slightly further north, so maybe a couple more inches for us this evening.

Had the main storm worked out this could have been an aside but ah well.  Some snow is better than no snow at all.

Yes, at least it will freshen up the snowpack in preparation for the next polar blast.

Judging by the medium range, the snow won't be going anywhere anytime soon.

Damn .3" of liquid at yyz as of 0z, 80% of which fell as rain.  That really wasn't in the cards and that's what's going to sink this storm here.

But, yes, the mild air held on longer than expected. Rain to snow scenarios almost never work out for Toronto.

It's snowing steadily here now. Not heavy snow and white-outs, but steady nonetheless. There's still a chance we make 4", I think, if it snows through the night.

Was my moms favorite restaurant growing up. Used to love playing the games on the table and the checkers in the store connected to it. I loved that place.

I've been to the one near Depew, not far from the Buffalo airport, and the one in Rochester. I used to like the prime roast beef.  Also, I believe Thursdays were turkey dinner day.
