I've been in the village in Nyack all day and it's misty and super soggy. Is it like this away from the river too?
PS if you're passing by there's a nice little craft fair at the community center in the village, that's where I am. Stop in and say hey, third booth in from the front door selling handmade hats.
Damn man had i seen this earlier i would have stopped by, im like 2 minutes from there.

no snow squall warning from upton
I dont think it was needed, it was through so quickly, roads didnt even get covered for more than a minute or so. But for that short time it was very heavy, visibility was a few hundred feet.

Ridiculously heavy snow for about 90 seconds, then it stopped almost immediately. That was awesome.

4.1" here measured on a snowboard at 5:30 PM. Still snowing but much lighter now (6:10PM).
Just for grins, I stuck the ruler lightly in the grass near the snowboard and got 5.9". I could have probably pushed it in a little harder and measured 7" if I was trying to inflate the inflated total.
This tells me 2 things. I need to mow the lawn when the snow melts and there are going to be a lot of BS totals reported for this one.
You cut too short. I measured almost 9” in the highest grass.

I’m taking bets that Central Park gets more than 1.5 inches recorded. If I get it wrong I don’t post for a month, if I get it right you don’t post for a month

Oh, and I’m supposed to drive to Long Island in the morning for a wedding, joy. Odds are increasing that the church will be skipped and thankfully there’s a shuttle between the recess down the hotel.
Im headed to work in the morning. If my wife was off today i would have just went in today and spent the night there. Im sure the main roads will be fine by 5 am but this isnt a good start lol

This will be a traffic nightmare . Snowfall at this rate will accumulate on all road surfaces
Everything that has a hill down here is closed in one spot or another. Palisades, 9w, 59, all have sections closed. Ugh

I went from 1” to 2” in well under an hour, that was impressive.
-
Alittle over an inch in just under the last hr. Not bad.

One thread for disco/obs or separate threads?
With short threads i dont think theres a need for separate threads. If its a long tracked system im ok with 2 threads

How about we discuss the storm and stop trying to feed egos by rushing to be first to declare threats dead (or rushing to claim you called a storm before models adjusted, just as obnoxious).

Yeah havent looked at soundings in awhile, kids science fair is being packed into an early dismissal day now but for down here it looked like around 1 or 2 we’d stsrt saturating the entire column.

The frigid air mass but warm ground is going to create quite the disparity between deck/grill/car/patio table measurements and those taken on a board properly married to the earth. I can't wait for the PNS to look something like this...
NEW WINDSOR...11.0"...PUBLIC NEWBURGH.......8.0"...FACEBOOK 2 W NEWBURGH...8.0"...FACEBOOK CORNWALL.......6.0"...SOCIAL MEDIA 1 N NEWBURGH...2.4"...TRAINED SPOTTER
This is why you dont mow too short before winter. Shove the ruler down and measure to the tops of the snow sticking on the longest blades of grass. 4” minimum here tomorrow.
