*Rockford, IL: 15.6" thru 11/25
Springfield, IL: 9.4" thru 11/25

And RFD's storm total of 11.7" at midnight would alone be good for 3rd place for their snowiest November on record. Alas, this storm pushes them up to 15.6" for the month (thru yesterday), which bests the 14.8" of Nov 1947 for 1st place.

17.0" in Oskaloosa, IA is the highest total I can find right now. Impressive.
As for MBY, just an awful storm...one I hope not to repeat anytime soon. A bunch of miserable cold rain...and then after it flipped, we've been stuck in subsidence hell. Got some light snow dancing around in the wind now, but it's nothing more than a mood setter. Regardless, it's been a relatively wintry November...so all is not lost.

November 2018 has cracked the top 10 snowiest for Chicago. Of note, all but one of these seasons went on to produce a snowfall total that was above average (2015-16 did not, as that was a strong/super Nino). Edited to update through 6:00 am today.
1) 14.8" in 1940 (season total of 52.5")
2) 14.5" in 1895 (53.6")
3) 14.3" in 1951 (66.4")
4) 11.2" in 2015 (31.2")
5) 11.0" in 2018 thru 6:00 am 11/26
6) 10.8" in 1975 (43.3")
7) 7.6" in 1953 (43.2")
8) 7.5" in 1893 (44.4")
9) 7.1" in 1978 (89.7")
10) 7.0" in 1950 (54.4")
Also since 2008, this November joins these months, in their respective monthly snowfall top 10 lists: Nov 2015, Nov 2018, Dec 2008, Dec 2009, Jan 2009, Jan 2014, Feb 2008, Feb 2010, Feb 2011, Feb 2015, Feb 2018.

39˚/35˚ at my house, gusty winds, and rain has begun. Going to be a long, cold, wet night here. Maybe a few consolation flakes at the very end.
Enjoy the snow to you all receiving. Definitely jealous.

It's really fun to be tracking a major storm system in November and I'm happy for the weenies to my north and west that are about to get blasted, but it sure comes at a cost for those of us in Indiana and Ohio who will only get to experience mood flakes, blustery winds, and temps that be below normal even for mid January standards this week. Obviously really early and I'm hopeful that our turn will come, but in the meantime cold and dry sucks.
Or you could be me, and miss warning amounts by 15-30 miles. For "fun", the 15z HRRR has double digit totals in the NW corner of Kankakee county...and 0.3" IMBY. No idea if that'll play out as modeled...but that's about as brutal of a miss as there can be. Regardless, expecting quite the cold soaker here with maybe a car topper at the very end. This storm has the potential to replace 11/30-12/1/2006 as my most hated ever. Oh well I guess.

12z Ukie is pretty much a whiff for RFD.
Takes the low over IND, which is a green flag for Chicago, lakeshore thermal issues nonetheless. Hoping to squeeze out an inch here in IKK. Didn’t think that was going to be possible...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Gotta remember that these days, Hoosier is as warm biased (self admitted) as the CFS is wrong.

I was more annoyed by that than GHD1, and it's really not even close.
This is correct. My most hated storm ever.
Anyways, snow coming down at a good clip here right now. LOT threw up a WWA for IKK for 2-3" total. Seems doable. Relatively fast start to winter here thus far.
To add, glad we're not in the LAF.

Crazy day. Had two bouts of snow and high wind gusts. Second one had pretty heavy snow really. Bunch of trees down where I was today...2 fell on cars and 1 on top of a house. Nobody hurt thankfully. I don't get paid enough to be out in these elements.

Lol at the fog rolling in at Wrigley. Man I'm glad that I don't live near the Lake.
I had tickets for this game, but decided to sell them and go in early July. Looks like that was a good decision.
Alek better not let his dog off of its leash. He'll never see it again.
Yours truly was in attendance. It wasn’t the best conditions for sure, and the result obviously. Still had fun though. Alas, you should have gone...I would’ve bought you a $9.75 beer.

Here is the NARR from the mornings of June 21 and June 22. Pretty amazing to see 850 mb temps below 0C in the Lakes.
Has the look that it should be snowing in Toronto and thereabouts.
-
17 here, in 1992.
Who remembers the snow of May 1989? That was a pretty cool event, no pun intended.
-
Come on, even you would be whining about 30s in late June.
If I had an early tee time that morning(s), sure.

Summer of my dreams.
It was Chicago's 4th coolest in recorded history (since 1873).
66.6º in 1875
66.9º in 1915
67.0º in 1884
67.1º in 1992
67.2º in 1891
3rd coolest in recorded history for Indianapolis (since 1871).
69.9º in 1927
70.0º in 1915
70.3º in 1992
70.4º in 1950
70.8º in 1958
Was also the 8th wettest summer for Indianapolis (17.28").

I went on a glacier cruise at the end of last month and happened to go on one of the best days of late summer (the benefits of being a meteorologist I guess). Check out the pics here...
Wow, great photos and scenes. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
<Makes note to visit Alaska at some point in my lifetime.>

really? places like this actually exist? i think i have fallen in love!!! thank you for sharing
Those photos (and locations) are amazing. I think I might have to consider moving.

So so happy to hear you and your family are ok JoMo.
