  1. Temperatures in the mid 40s but dew points below freezing will minimize melting today. Aiding the melt is a fairly strong wind to disperse that layer of cold air just above the snow. Also adding to snow melt is the ever increasing strength of insolation. Tomorrow is going to be a disaster for our snowpack with rain and higher dew points and temperatures.
  2. Just had a burst of heavy snow here but the band appears to be racing south now.
  3. Up to borderline moderate snow here. The ground is finally getting covered.
  4. Hey an inch a day would be 30 inches a month. We could get to 100 inches in a season that way.
  5. Ended up with 1.1 inches of snow last night, 0.04 liquid. Waiting for the lake band to sink south and weaken.
  6. Looks to be a Chicago to Toronto storm. GFS has been locked in for a couple of days.
  7. Looking at the Salmon River cam on Earthcam it is snowing pretty good in Pulaski. Wolfie must be getting hit pretty good. The bad is moving south at pretty good rate and should be here within an hour.
  8. Living in Little Falls at the time I could pick up WKBW AM at night I remember listening to their storm coverage for several days. The whole city of Buffalo was basically shut down and eventually the National Guard was called in to assist in snow removal. The air mass that caused the blizzard was preceded by a cold front. In that winter temperatures around freezing were considered warm and that morning Little Falls was around freezing while Buffalo on the other side of the front was already in the single digits. Little Falls received close to a half a foot of snow just with the frontal passage. It was an amazing winter and an amazing storm.
  9. 1/17/1977 snow was in the air at Freeport in the Bahamas, the only time it has snowed in those islands. The winter of 1976-77 went down as one of the coldest in the east and in fact provoked some talk that we were going into a new ice age.
  10. Snowing lightly here. You can see the snow showers building off the lake on radar.
  11. I say watch out around the Ides of March. The last 5 years we’ve had a couple of major snowstorms in the middle of March. The Superstorm of 93 was in the middle of March.
  12. It’s amazing we’re so close total wise. I’m at 55.7 inches as of today. Last year I ended up with 81.3 inches.
