  1. You beat me to it! I saw the lightning and was waiting for the thunder and then it rumbled the whole house.
  2. Just had a flash of lightning and thunder - pretty cool.
  3. 32.2/32.2 here at 1,000 feet. Light glaze on everything. Is this the push of colder air? My sister lives in Colebrook and said everything is really drooping up there.
  4. We seem to have bottomed out at 31.8/31.3. Been steady there for an hour or so.
  5. Nothing crazy - would allow us to run AC in the summer if necessary and not have to worry about running other things such a well pump and other appliances. We freeze a great deal from the garden so we have a couple of freezers that I would hate to lose. The cost differential between a 12, 14 and 20 kW unit was pretty minimal (it was about $500-$600 difference for actual generator between the 12 and 20 kW units) in comparison to the rest of the install cost and then I can run anything without having to worry. Also, going that large saved us some money because we did not have to move circuits out of the main panel into a sub panel.
  6. We'll see how this goes. There is something to be said for having a 20kW generator and 1,500 gallons of propane in the tanks. I'm right at 1,000 feet.
  7. 35/28 with light rain. Wind has had a southerly component to it all day. I'm assuming a northerly component will kick in at some point otherwise it will just be cold rain, which is OK with me.
  8. Even at 1,000 feet out here in NW CT, my expectations are low as the warm air usually wins out pretty quickly. Right now, it does not look like there is much wiggle room without having a 33* rain.
  9. Last year we built a new house with really good insulation and buried 2-1000 gallon propane tanks. We used just over 400 gallons of propane from the beginning of February to mid-October. Cost us just over $500 to top off in October for the winter. It is well worth owning the propane tanks to make shopping for it possible where as with leasing, you are stuck with the company you leased from. We use the propane for heating, hot water and whole house generator. We also installed solar panels which we purchased, with a break even period of around 9 years. It sure is nice getting a monthly bill from Eversource for $10!
  10. I grew up in Norfolk and lived there for my first 26 years. It is a magical place for fans of snow - for SNE, it is about as good as it gets. I now live in New Hartford about 15 miles from Norfolk and while a big step up from Ellington, it is still not even close to Norfolk.
  11. Thoughts on trees shedding the ice tomorrow before the cold front comes through and winds come up?
  12. Temp here down to 34. Given the rate of drop, it is still and hour or two away from hitting 32.
  13. Down to 36* but and appears to be all rain still here in New Hartford.
  14. That is a thing of beauty - current conditions seem to support this coming to fruition.
  15. It is ripping out there! It is great being under yellows on the radar!
  16. If this could keep going for while - this would add up quickly. I fear it is going to be too transient to amount to much.
  17. It has gotten quite lively out there with moderate snow and the wind has really started cranking.
  18. We are vacillating between snow and sleet. More time as sleet. 25 degrees.
  19. Went from nothing to a nice steady snow in a matter of a minute.
