Small hail in Seaford. Passed now. Looking at base reflectivity I think the possible tornado started in Baldwin over the southern state.

Still heard katydids last night.

Took a drive down Wantagh parkway to Jones beach. Down right stormy near the water. Couple trees and limbs down. Wind has a lot of East to it and isn’t pushing too far inland. It’s windy at my house but it’s a different feeing 3 miles south along the immediate coast.

Hi... will update OBS thread TITLE amounts, maybe around 8P as we get going. One thing am pretty sure of... we get big wind and power outages CT/LI and am staying with the near 70MPH gusts.
More when I get a new handle on everything after a day of work, and installing (w Nick Stefano and excellent support from Weatherflow help desk) new weather station. Hopefully it does well.
Very much like the weatherflow. Sleek all in one design. Like others have said, it’s not there yet for accuracy on the rainfall, but everything else is nice.
I think I spotted you on the weatherflow map way up there in the NW corner of NJ- 1

October 15 and I'm still wearing shorts
LoL
I am actually trying to decide if tomorrow is a beach day or if the south winds ahead of the front will be too much... today and yesterday were legitimate beach days any way you slice it.

My low for the season is 46. This is the latest that my location has failed to drop below 46 since i have been here (6 years). Most years have dipped into the 30s by now, and some below freezing.
The bugs are loving it.
I still hear katydids every night.

did anyone else notice that the fireflies quit early this year?
i seem to remember a few years back they were swarming well into October due to warm moist weather. i might've thought they'd do the same this year if you told me the weather ahead of time, but i haven't seen them in several weeks, well back into mid-August.
I was thinking about this old thread the other day too. I have noticed much less of a lightning bug season this year around here as well. I wonder if it is just more a natural ebb and flow in the population and less about the weather.

Another perfect summers day on the beach. Odette really showed up. Head high and glassy with light NW wind.

Looks like South Shore, Wantagh east is about to get socked. That line coming off the ocean looks bad. Pouring and gusting here like crazy already.
Just passing though here now. Looks like a tropical storm with the sheets of rain and wind to go along with it.

79.3 max dew point today. Hitting 75 is getting easy but 80 still remains elusive.

90/77. Heat sucks…. Oh wait, not if you live near the beach and play hooky from work

3.10 on my weather flow but it’s almost certainly too low. The wantagh mesonet is 4.5” and that lines up with the radar estimates. I do like the weather flow devices for everything else beside the way it measures rain. It’s some sort of algorithm based on the size of the rain drops. Sorry, but no technology beats measuring water in a bucket.

Sitting on the beach in Suffolk and everyone’s phones just blasted with the hurricane warning.

They were going to close the site in the early 1990s when the NWS moved. So maybe they made the trade off just to keep the site going. But how hard can it be to manage the tree growth around the ASOS?
This could easily be Fixed

May have been some kind of microburst that went through the southeast part of levittown. That is where this house is I own and not only is this big tree down but there's wires down in nearby areas too, from what I am told.
Take a look at some of the local weather flow stations in the area. Must have been something that came up around 5:30-6:00AM. A couple stations in Levittown up to 40mph plus and I gusted to 52 in Seaford. Most of these weather stations are probably very sheltered and not at 10M, so 40-50mph readings are pretty high.

Must of had some very localized cell that came over my area just before 6AM. Had a couple gusts over 50 and sustained in the 30s for about 10 minutes which is wild because my station is at a height of 23 feet but the house in general is sheltered from good wind readings. My two closest official stations at FRG and the mesonet at wantagh didn’t show it. However, two other weather flow stations within a mile of me had the same thing
