Short term models have a nice batch of rain and storm coming through the area this evening. The wet conditions continue.

I will believe it when I see it. Have instructed my daughters to water the gardens early to avoid melting.

Hey everyone! I stopped by the forum to see if there is any cool down in sight, but it’s not looking good. I usually don’t mind summers around here, but I was in the UK and Ireland for almost 3 weeks (it was between 55- 75 degrees), and came back to this nasty heat and humidity.  Can’t wait to start tracking snow, but this increasing heat can’t be good for our winter prospects...

Yea I want to go back to Spearfish SD. We went from being outside everyday to staying cooped up inside.

  3. We are heading back from our vacation. Will be coming down 70 to 340. I see a list of some road closures in Fred Co. but am wondering about the Ballenger Creek area. We are currently in New Pairs OH on the IN boarder getting ready to head out on the road.

  4. Hello from WY. Last day heading home tomorrow. But just had to share.

We got chased out of Devils Tower aka Bears Lodge by a monster of a storm. Would have stayed but with projected 2.5” hail and 60 mph winds the husband did not want an insurance claim. However he indulged me by stopping for some amazing shots!

    Enjoy!

  5. Experienced the best storm of my life out here in SD last night. I have video of it coming in but it will not load up as it is too big. I do have it on my FB page if anyone wants to friend me. Send a message and I will reveal my secret decoder name. Started around 9:30pm

The lightning was non stop and the inflow and gust front WOW! After the cell went through with an absolute gully wash for about 10 min. On the back side the inflow was so strong the house we are staying in was making sounds and the wind prompted me to look out the window in the flashes and check radar. The cell pushed east and formed a bowed line. I could see lightning till 2am on the horizon. We had another cell develop right over us around 2am also.

  6. Hello all!

We are into Illinois now. Sun is coming out and may get some action later in Iowa.

So far having a great time and getting off the Highway. Just saw a Rotary Jail. It was pretty neat. Heading to a Western Store in Urbana/Champaign IL as my husband wants some boots.

The wind and solar farms out here are amazing!

Dehydration , you worked outside ?  Hope you guys feel better.

I had to get up three times last night as my dog, is going downhill.. all sort of issus developing . Went out at 3 AM to a tropical like rain forest , every window coated in dew and a slight fog, and mist as well hanging overhead.  Yuck !  Then my dog has grown to fear ground bees , like the cicada killer bees even though they are mostly harmless.  Takes him 5 minutes to look around and finally go.  Soon those cicadas will be here , I think near July 23 rd ish

No dehydration. We are prone to barometric pressure headaches. Just some are worse than others. Usually when something big is forthcoming. With the headache the pressure also causes me to have a weepy eye that waters all day. I actually am happy if I start sneezing. Then the pressure gets relived.

Sorry to hear about your dog. They all touch our hearts.

So ...you show up at someone's ranch/ farm and spend the night there . ( Does this include wild life fun:D).

    I assume you're riding their horses since you're a horse girl...no?

It is called Circle View Guest Ranch. And yes they have guest rooms and cabins. Located right near the entrance to the Bad Lands Park.

And yep will be riding. One of their family members owns a working cattle ranch just down the road. They do range riding on the side. We have booked a 2 hr ride and it is not a tail to nose ride. As my younger daughter is an advanced rider she will get to do more than walk and trot. We will get a fantastic view of the Bad Lands as their ranch is right next to it.

Totally agree about Wall Drug. It’s a neat place that we actually stumbled upon. Pretty good food in the area too.

I also liked the Crazy Horse Memorial, which is near Mount Rushmore. A lot of good items in the museum and the food was solid.

If you like good food (and I know you do) @Mrs.J, Madison, WI is awesome. The Old Fashioned was super busy but tremendous.

Awesome about Madison! We are taking a different route out through Iowa, but are coming back through MN and WI. Husband wanted to stay in Madison.

If you're into cars, there's a car museum in Murdo.

Wall Drug is a tourist trap, but it's pretty neat.

Wall Drug is a must stop. We are actually staying our first couple of days on a guest ranch in Interior. So not that far from Wall. We are all about the kitch.

I assume you'll end up on I-90.  As you approach Chamberlain, SD, stop at the scenic view stop.  As soon as you cross the Missouri River there, the scenery changes pretty drastically.  It's really neat.

There's a diner called Al's Oasis just over the river that's unexpectedly solid.

Thanks for this! I told him about what you said and he said he had heard about the diner. We are all for stops like the two you mentioned. If you have anymore let me know. We found a site called roadside America and have planned many stops.

  12. The end of this week we will be loading up the family truckster and embarking on a road trip to South Dakota. Husband has always wanted to see the Bad Lands, and he has sabbatical he needs to use. Taking our time and stopping at whatever roadside oddities we can. Teenage daughters are up for the challenge of limited internet and reading an actual map. The song Holiday Road has been added to our playlist. There will be no dying Aunt or dog peeing on our sandwiches though.

Had some surprise thunderstorm activity overnight between 2 and 4am.  A good bit of lightning at times but rain wasn't particularly heavy got .30".   Just fun to lie in bed listening to the rumbling thunder and watching the glow of lightning filtering in between the shades and curtains.

Yes it was a nice surprise.

I got a mix of pea to marble sized hail just a little east of you.  Made quite a racket with the wind blowing it into windows on west side of house.  Got 0.56" in 10 minutes with that storm.

Yea the wind blowing it into the windows is how I knew it was hail. Was raining so hard had to open the back slider to confirm it and size. And yep got close to the same amount of rain. With that line and the stuff behind it got .66” total. Station up to 1.71” for the day.
