  1. It seems to me that a school district cost XXX dollars to run even if smaller. When you have a populous Twp you get XXX dollars in taxes but when a not so populous Twp there is only XX dollars available so that extra X needs to come from somewhere.
  2. Not sure I investigated it that far but the taxes were listed on the Zillow listing and MLS listing and we confirmed it was not a case of someone not getting a Homestead. My wife viewed the home with a realtor and that was when she was told the taxes were so bad in that district. But imagine that, your mortgage is paid off yet you are still on the hook for $700/MO. @Mount Joy Snowman, I searched back through some emails and found the millage rate per the realtor: .06850(school and county millage). Of course some of this relies on what they assess it at. She said "Mahanoy Area is one the school districts that never stopped reassessing"
  3. We were looking at a place in Hometown @Voyager. Taxes were 8-9K if I remember correctly.for a house selling at 179K in 2018. The opportunity to be called a Homeboy was not worth that much though!
  4. The new GFS slowed down the front making it warmer and wetter...that was my worry. Heavy rain all through the LSV at 8PM
  5. Looks like 80's are in the bag over here today. 72 at 10:30.
  6. If the Mini Heat wave fans want a shot at their 3rd day they may have to put up with rain Saturday late.
  7. Outside all the home talk, the 5 min views for MDT (and others I checked) have gone away from this site address https://www.weather.gov/wrh/timeseries?site=Kmdt
  8. That was one area as was the Hometown area near Tamaqua. I am sure there are others.
  9. Eh, if you mean the stock market going down remember the market was down to 18K in 2020. It is almost as inflated as the housing market right now. Hey, post #200 for you is talking about housing taxes. LOL
  10. It makes it hard to retire in those types of areas. 700-800 a mo payment even when mortgage is done.
  11. Some areas over there have crazy taxes as well. One place we looked at, near Tamaqua, the taxes were 8K per year.
  12. I am afraid housing around here drops 15-20%. 25-35% in places like Florida and Arizona. Not as bad as 2007 but not great. In 2007 housing dropped 50-60% for most of Florida.
  13. When I moved back to PA, after being burned in Florida (and those down there are probably going to get burned again in the next year or two), I told my wife buying here was ok as the prices do not move as much as Florida. Well, our house has almost doubled in Zillow value in the last 2 years. It is not sustainable and I feel it has to go down a lot (as everyone else's) and I am going to be made to be a liar. Homes are simply not affordable for most people anymore. Take a 250K house....with the interest rates going up it is $400 more per month now than it was just a year ago assuming the same house value. People making $60-$70K cannot afford $2000 house payments.
  14. Like getting a raise but having your health insurance go up.
  15. Amazon pays 20 plus per hour if near one of their warehouses. Housing is way up here. A normal 150k house is now 250k. Fast food pays 12-15 an HR here.
  16. I do not know the answer to your question but 10 a day for a week will get you there regardless. Lol
  17. I only wish it would be like this on Sat or Sunday when my mowing total breaks into double digits.
  18. Euro not overly enthusiastic for over 90 tomorrow but still says to get on your 100+ Pants for Friday. 96-98 at 2PM. (Edit, I just got a heart from Voyager!)
  19. Just saw mention, on MA, that Western MD had frost this AM.
  20. Two years in a row for Caledonia. Quite surprised. I wonder if the other 'C Word' had an effect on this as well.
  21. Oh wow, I did not know that, thanks for the info. Last year was lack of lifeguards. Kids can make $15-$20 an hr other places.
  22. The euro is the only model I see which has a chance of anything near 90 Sat. Everything else in the 70's at 18Z Sat. Sat high on the GFS is actually low 80's mid morning. HRRR suggests it is close tomorrow.
  23. Wed may be be a must have for those wanting a Heat Wave Jr. of 3 days at 90. Euro still insinuating 100 for Fri.
  24. Oh man, just missed. 52 here. I had the window fan on sucking in air and the BR was down to 63 this AM. One more degree and the heater would have kicked on.
